Param Yuva II is stepping stone

India’s bid to be the top in the supercomputer league by 2017 has reached another stepping stone with the release of its fastest super computer yet.

The Param Yuva II has been launched by the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC) and is the fastest supercomputer in India and 62nd fastest in the world. It has been upgraded to 524 teraflops which is about 10 times faster than the present facility.

The Param Yuva-II also promises to be energy efficient with 35% reduction in energy consumption as compared to is predecessor. According to the Indian press Param Yuva II will help in predicting weather, aircraft designing and finding natural resources.

India wants to housing the world’s fastest supercomputer in the world by 2017, although doing that will mean seeing off stiff competition from China and the US.
