MediaTek P20 powered Coolpad A9S-9 spotted

Shaping a 16nm FinFET part

The Coolpad A9S-9 is the first phone spotted in the GFX Bench database and what makes this phone special is the fact that this is the first time we saw a 16nm FinFET Plus based Helio P20 in the wild. 

Helio P20 is nternally known as the MT6757 and it comes with eight Cortex A53 cores clocked up to 2.3GHz. The Coolpad phone comes with 4GB RAM and 64GB storage, a 5.5 inch Full HD screen and Android 6.0.1.

The Coolpad A9S-9 has 12-megapixel main camera that supports 4K video and a 7-megapixel front camera with a maximum resolution of 3264 x 2448 and Full HD video. Since the new SoC has an upgraded Mali T880 MP2 graphics at 900 MHz, we see something like a  30 percent advantage over the Helio P10 powered by T860 MP2 at 700 MHz.  

Let’s not forget that the Helio P20 is MediaTek’s first phone to support 2 x LPDDR4X 1600MHz with possibility up to 6GB but some phones will choose the more cost effective 1x LPDDR3 933Mhz (up to 4GB) + eMMC 5.1 solution.  

MediaTek promised to start shipping Helio P20 SoC to its customers in the second half of 2016 but we hope that some of its  customers may ship the Helio P20 in phones this year. The Helio P10 is quite an upgrade from last year’s MediaTek MTK 5753 clocked to a maximum1.5GHz and with much slower graphics. MediaTek made a huge leap forward in modems as it now supports carrier aggregation and Cat 6, something that was required by most network carriers in the USA and Europe.
