‘I don’t care!’ Hughie Maughan sends a defiant message to the Traveller community about his sexuality!

It’s strange to think Hughie Maughan only came out to his family just before he entered the Big Brother house considering how confident the chap is – and he’s now saying he doesn’t care what other Travellers think about the same-sex relationship.

The 22-year-old even wants his housemate-turned-boyfriend Ryan Ruckledge to meet his parents!

The runner-up told the Irish Sun: ‘I’m sure it is going to be strange for my mum and dad to meet my boyfriend because they don’t have any gay friends. But at the same time, I know my parents will be happy I’m happy being with someone so special to me.’

And when he was asked about what other Travellers might think of him being gay, he said: ‘I don’t really care what anyone thinks. I don’t have to ask anyone’s permissions to do anything.

‘If people don’t understand things, and it takes them a while to adjust, that is not going to affect the way I live my life.’

The Irish reality star also said that being out on screen has had a positive affect on the Travellling community – with everyone, so far, being really nice about the whole thing.

‘I’ve been told I have helped so many LGBT travellers, that lots of Traveller boys have been able to come out to their parents because the whole family has been watching Big Brother.’

Hughie Maughan came in second place to Jason Burrill and remained a fan favourite throughout all the series. He eventually started a relationship with fellow contestant Ryan Ruckledge, who ended up getting his name tattooed on his chest!

That would be an awkward conversation in literally any family.
