Seventh generation chip streaming 4k
The Intel Developer Forum saw 2-in-1 devices capable of streaming 4k video thanks to Chipzilla’s new Kaby Lake chip.
CEO Brian Krzanich said the boost in spec was thanks to new graphics architecture in the chip that can decode 10-bit HEVC video.
He demoed Kaby Lake chips handling content creation and editing 4K video on the fly. We understand that no flies were injured during the demonstration.
To showcase how the CPUs can handle graphically intense games, Krzanich played a game of Overwatch on a Dell XPS laptop with a Core i5 CPU. It was probably an XPS 13, but Intel did not say.
Krzanich says the 7th-gen Core chips are now shipping to the company’s PC partners, with new devices set to arrive in the autumn.
