Alienware updates its notebook lineup

With Tobii eye-tracking and Nvidia GPUs

Alienware has already teased that there will be a product update and today, it has announced its newest and hardware-updated notebooks.

The bigger Alienware 17, which comes with three display options, including 1080p, 1440p and 2160p resolution screens, some of which will probably support Nvidia G-Sync, has been updated with plenty of GPU options, including Nvidia’s Pascal-based Geforce GTX 1080, GTX 1070 and the GTX 1060, which automatically made them VR-capable.

The Alienware 17 also got the fancy new Tobii EyeX eye-tracking hardware, which is now getting a lot of attention as it got into some AAA game titles like Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, Tom Clancy’s: The Division and Assassin’s Creed Syndicate.

Thanks to that same Tobii eye-tracking technology, Alienware 17 notebook got some neat features like the Wake on Gaze, Stay Awake/Dim Screen, Autolock and Keyboard Lights adjustment, all focused on where the user is looking or if the user is present or away from the notebook.

The new Alienware 17 still retained its CPU options, including the high-end and overclockable Core i7-6820HK, up to 32GB of RAM and plenty of storage options, including variety of SATA and PCIe storage options (for up to 3TB with 1TB PCIe as a boot drive and 1 TB PCIe and 1TB 7200RPM SATA 6Gb/s as storage drives). It also comes with a fancy gaming oriented TactX keyboard with RGB lighting and 2.2mm key travel.

The new Alienware 15 is quite similar to the Alienware 17 but cuts down on GPU choices, leaving it with Nvidia’s GTX 1070 and GTX 1060. It also only comes with 1920×1080 IPS screen but the rest of the specifications and options should be the same, including Intel’s Core i7-6820HK CPU and same storage options. It will also apparently lack Tobii eye-tracking hardware but should still be quite interesting.

The biggest mystery is the Alienware 13, which although not detailed and won’t be launching together with the Alienware 17 and Alienware 15, should end up only with a GTX 1060, which is quite impressive for a 13-inch notebook, as well as an OLED display option which will offer stunning visuals with 100,000:1 contrast ratio and 1ms response time.

According to Alienware, the new Alienware 17 and Alienware 15 will be available for order as of September 30th while Alienware 13 will be coming sometime in November.
