HTC sends invites to product event on January 12th

A few days after CES

Over the weekend, HTC sent out invitations to a new product announcement it will be holding on January 12th, 2017, during the week following CES in Las Vegas.

While details are still scarce at this point, some expect that the company will announce the HTC One X10 smartphone, a successor to the HTC One X9 that was released in January for around $ 370. That device featured a 5.5-inch 1080p display, an eight-core MediaTek Helio X10 at 2.2GHz, 3GB of RAM, 32GB of internal storage, a 13-megapixel front facing camera, a 5-megapixel rear facing camera, fast charging and support for dual SIM cards.

The HTC One X10 was revealed in a filing by the Eurasian Economic Commission last month and is expected to feature a 5.5-inch 1080p display, an eight-core MediaTek Helio P10 at 2GHz, 3GB of RAM, a 13-megapixel front facing camera, a 5-megapixel rear facing camera, fast charging, and a lower $ 290 entry price.

Other announcement possibilities include a smartphone-based VR headset, new controllers for the HTC Vive PC headset, or simply a new smartwatch. Some even insist the announcement could be a sneak preview of its second-generation HTC Vive PC headset, though the company was still in very early planning stages and internal discussions with its VR unit back in August.

The invitation banner is quite minimal and only mentions the phrase “for you” in stylistic format, though The Verge has noted that the “U” is a vertical version of the “C” used in HTC’s company logo. This hardly leaves any room for imagination, though it is interesting that a product announcement would be held over a month and a half before Mobile World Congress takes place in Barcelona.
