Gigabyte shows more v7 gaming notebooks at CES

Kaby Lake with Geforce GTX 1050/Ti, 1060 and 1070

Gigabyte had quite a few notebooks to present during its media event at CES, not the least of which included its Aorus thin and lightweight gaming series, along with some refreshes to its traditional Aero and P series lineups, and a new Sabre 15-inch design.

Aero 14 (i7 7700HQ)

Where the Aero 14 notebook was previously available with a 6th-gen Intel Core processor and a Geforce GTX 965M, 970M or 1060 6GB depending on the configuration, the company has now refreshed the series with a 7th-gen Intel Core i7 7700HQ 2.80GHz processor (3.80GHz Turbo) while retaining the same 19.9mm thin profile (0.78 inches) and 1.89kg weight (4.17 pounds).

The rest of the specifications remain the same – a 14-inch wide-angle QHD (1440p) IPS display, up to 32GB of DDR4 2400MHz memory, up to a 2GB/s M.2 NVMe SSD, one USB 3.1 Type-C port, one HDMI 2.0 port, and a Dolby Digital Plus surround audio codec. New: Sabre 15

Sabre is a new product line from Gigabyte that is more similar to the Aorus brand, yet is designed for beginner and casual gamers without sacrificing on performance. The name “Sabre” is derived from a curved backsword with an added hand guard for additional attack and defense capabilities.

The 15.6-inch Sabre gaming notebook features a 7th-gen Intel Core i7 7700HQ 2.80GHz processor (3.80GHz Turbo) and an RGB-backlit keyboard with a 2.2mm travel distance using scissor-type keys. The notebook features the option of a Geforce GTX 1050 Ti or 1050 graphics card, up to 32GB of DDR4 2400MHz memory, up to a 1TB M.2 NVMe SSD at 2GB/s and a 2TB HDD, an HDMI 2.0 output, one USB 3.1 Type-C output, and an optional UHD Blu-ray optical drive.

Interestingly enough, Gigabyte’s press release indicates this will be the first notebook to feature a PC optical disk drive supporting the UHD Blu-ray format. We have reached out to the company for further information. The remainder of the notebook’s specs, along with price, will be released when it becomes available sometime this quarter.

New: P56X

The P56X is another new 15.6-inch notebook built for enthusiasts and designed for performance 4K UHD gaming within a relatively lightweight and portable chassis. The design features a 7th-gen Intel Core i7 7700HQ 2.80GHz processor (3.80GHz Turbo) and a rare island style per-key RGB backlit keyboard that lights up with 16.8 million colors. The notebook features a 4K (3840x2160p) IPS display backed by a Geforce GTX 1070 graphics card, quad storage units (up to two 1TB M.2 NVMe SSDs at 2GB/s each and two 2TB HDDs), up to 32GB of DDR4 2400MHz memory, a USB Type-C Thunderbolt 3 port and an extra high capacity 91Wh battery for added gaming mobility and nuclear launch operations. The notebook is expected to become available sometime later this quarter.
