‘I didn’t tell anybody’: Paris Jackson opens up about shocking sexual assault for the very first time

The death of a parent is an unsurprisingly difficult event to experience – and when the parent in question is arguably the world’s biggest music star, it must be even harder.

Paris Jackson, the only daughter of the late Michael Jackson, has had much documented emotional and mental struggles since her father’s death in 2009, with an attempted suicide at age 15 and cases of self-harming hitting the headlines.

Now 18, Paris has spoken out about her tumultuous adolescence, revealing for the first time that she was the victim of a sexual assault.

Paris opens up on many aspects of her life in a recent interview, stating that although she’s dealing with it in her own way, she is still recovering from the loss of her dad.

‘They always say, “Time heals,”…But it really doesn’t. You just get used to it,’ she tells Rolling Stone magazine.

‘I live life with the mentality of “OK, I lost the only thing that has ever been important to me.” So going forward, anything bad that happens can’t be nearly as bad as what happened before. So I can handle it.’

Over the years, she has openly discussed some of her more difficult periods, self-harming and cutting included. She’s now invested in a wealth of tattoos to cover the marks – but there’s one thing in particular that she’s kept very quiet.

In the interview, Paris reveals that she suffered a sexual assault from a ‘complete stranger’ when she was 14 – before her last attempt to take her own life. And at the time, she refrained from telling anyone about it:

‘I don’t wanna give too many details. But it was not a good experience at all, and it was really hard for me, and, at the time, I didn’t tell anybody.’

But the music and art enthusiast is now in a much better place, looking forward to a potential role in TV drama Star and enjoying life with drummer boyfriend Michael Snoddy.
