Yes, Belle! Emma Watson hits back at sexist comments about her ‘t*ts’ after ‘revealing’ photoshoot

The Beauty and the Beast star waves her feminism flag high once again

Along with her acting skills, Emma Watson has gained praise over the years for her support of the feminism movement.

And while promoting the eagerly-anticipated Beauty and the Beast, Emma has been moved to stand up for her part in a recent, cleavage baring photoshoot against trolls who claim that it goes against the ideas of being what a feminist is.

Emma appears on the cover of this month’s Vanity Fair, and one of the photos in particular has gained traction with fans and the general public:

Showing her arms crossed, Emma is seen wearing a see-through top with her cleavage showing. As a response, headlines such as ‘Beauty and the Breasts’ emerged, as well as some claiming this as a hypocritical move against her feminist beliefs.

And Emma, 26, responded to the odd commentary on the shoot in an interview with Reuters, reminding people that a major part of feminism is about giving women the choice to do, look and wear whatever they want…

‘Feminism is about giving women choice, feminism is not a stick with which to beat other women with, it’s about freedom, it’s about liberation, it’s about equality,’ she said before adding:

‘I really don’t know what my tits have to do with it.’

‘The shot itself I was honestly slightly taken aback by, because we’d been doing so many crazy things on that shoot. But it felt incredibly artistic and I’ve been so creatively involved and engaged with [Vanity Fair photographer Tim Walker], and I’m so thrilled about how interesting and beautiful the photographs were.’

Nicely put! However, some have brought up some clashing comments from 2014, in which she stated that she had concerns over Beyoncé‘s feminist credentials after the release of her visual album. Speaking to Wonderland magazine, Emma said:

‘As I was watching [Beyoncé’s visual album] I felt very conflicted, I felt her message felt very conflicted in the sense that on the one hand she is putting herself in a category of a feminist, but then the camera, it felt very male, such a male voyeuristic experience of her.’

Though Emma makes a great point about the fact of her having breasts being irrelevant to her feminist beliefs, it’s a shame she didn’t feel the same a couple of years ago. But hey – hopefully this is a sign of progress, and soon we won’t need to discuss whether a woman’s actions make her a feminist or not.
