Career change for Michelle Keegan? Great British Bake Off bosses are ‘desperate’ to sign the star up

Since hanging up those humongous, Tina McIntyre earrings in 2014, former Coronation Street actress Michelle Keegan has been VERY busy.

The talented 29-year-old has not stopped cropping up on our telly boxes, starring in massive dramas like Tina and Bobby and Our Girl – and we have to admit, we’re loving it.

But now it looks like the popular star might be up for a whole new career in baking as rumour has it Channel 4 are pulling out all the stops to score Michelle on the celeb version of The Great British Bake Off.

Well, we didn’t see that coming!

According to The Sun, bosses are desperate to sign up the glamorous star, who’s married to TOWIE lad Mark Wright, and see her as a great choice for the revamped show.

An insider revealed: ‘After they managed to wrestle the Great British Bake Off away from the BBC, the bosses know the pressure is on.

‘They’ve made signing up names for the celebrity special priority and Michelle Keegan is top of the list, as she is apparently a very keen baker.

‘She is also a real Bake Off fan and thinks it would be a fun thing to do.’

Despite getting VERY excited about the prospect of the actress joining Paul Hollywood for Celebrity Bake Off in autumn, unfortunately bosses are worried they might not be able to secure the busy star with the source adding: ‘The issue is whether or not she can fit it in with her other work projects.

‘She will be travelling to South Africa in the near future to film the second series of Our Girl, and that won’t leave a lot of time for baking.

‘But Channel 4 are doing everything they can to sweeten the deal for her.’

Blimey! They really are keen…

The news of Michelle’s potential baking gig comes after it was revealed presenters Mel Giedroyc and Sue Perkins as well as Queen of Baking, Mary Berry wouldn’t be returning to the show following the news it was moving to Channel 4.

(We’re still not over it).

If that wasn’t bad enough, it was also revealed the new series won’t actually start until 2018 – so we have to go a whole year with no soggy bottoms… Torture, right?

Luckily chiefs announced in January that the shorter Stand Up to Cancer celeb special would be shown in autumn. Phew… We’re sure Michelle would do a great job on the show!
