Gamer feud claims first real casualty

And it was collateral damage

A feud between rival gamers has claimed its first fatality – made worse by the fact that it was a case of mistaken identity.

Last week a 28 year old Andrew Finch opened his door to Kansas coppers and was promptly shot dead for his efforts. The Wichita cop fired once, killing the unarmed Finch. And, police reason, Finch was to for lowering his hands to his waist despite instructions from officers to keep them raised. Apparently that carries the death penalty in Kansas. The coppers had extra itchy trigger fingers because they had been told that he had just killed his father and was holding his mum hostage.

The report was entirely false and as news of the death got out, the local Call of Duty gaming community claimed it was all part of a feud between players. Finch has the unfortunate claim to fame to be the first person to die in a swatting prank. For those who came in late, a swatting prank is when someone calls up the cops armed response team and claims there is an active shooter in your house. Armed police break down the door and normally arrest a bewildered unarmed gamer much to the amusement of his socially retarded gamer enemy. Swatting was also the tool of choice of the alt-right when they were trying to harass women gaming reporters.  So far no one has been killed.

Later reports said that Finch was not even a gamer but one of the geniuses in the gamer ring had searched his address, thinking it was a person who had been hacking him off in the game. However his search skills were not up to snuff and he got the wrong address.

The row was over a two dollar game bet, but you know how it is with people with no sense of perspective and cops with guns who shoot first and ask questions later.

The New York Daily News reports police in Los Angeles have now arrested 25-year-old gamer Tyler Barriss, who the paper describes as “an alleged serial ‘prankster’ apparently he always plays jokes on his cornflakes….”
