James Curd & Osunlade’s superb ‘Chocolate Puddin” single has been remixed by deep house heavyweights Kai Alce and Yoruba following on from FNX Omar’s remix at the end of 2023.
First up to tackle the Afro-tinged original is Kai Alcé, an Atlanta house innovator who heads up the cultured NDTAL label and always brings sublime depths to his work. His slightly quickened version brings his signature smoky soul with jazzy chords over the warm and cosy drums, all of which lock you into a mindful state, as does the instrumental version.
Then comes Yoruba label head Osunlade, a master of spiritual deep house, priest of the Yoruba religion of Ifá and a revered American with a richly organic and Afro-centric sound. His Soul Mix brings a futuristic feel to the synths and the sleek, driving drums, but retains the emotional charm of the original.
This is a standout package of sophisticated house sounds from some of the scene’s finest.
