When it comes to techno music’s legacy, the history books are well documented, with Detroit’s trio of Juan Atkins, Derrick May and Kevin Saunderson rightly heralded as the initiators, innovators, and elevators of the genre. On the other side of the pond, London born Dave Angel was also exploring the possibilities of electronic music with his own jazz, funk & soul leanings in this furtive period.
Signing to R&S Records in 1991, with the ‘1st Voyage’ EP, Dave Angel began a long association with the Belgian record label that continues to this very day. The ‘3rd Voyage’ EP, released in 1993, captured Angel’s trademark hybrid sound of soul drenched techno music, jazzy electronics and 909 drum machine propelled rhythms.
This re-release of the ‘3rd Voyage’ EP is the first time the release has been digitally available as a standalone release (the three tracks here feature on the ‘Classics’ album from 1996, which has since gone on to have a digital release).
