    November 26, 2025
    Italy

    Francesco Iacopino

ULA aimed to launch up to 10 Vulcan rockets this year—it will fly just once

    November 26, 2025
    Hardware

Around this time last year, officials at United Launch Alliance projected 2025 would be their busiest year ever. Tory Bruno, ULA’s chief executive, told reporters the company would launch as many as 20 missions this year, with roughly an even split between the legacy Atlas V launcher and its replacement—the Vulcan rocket.

Now, it’s likely that ULA will close out 2025 with six flights—five with the Atlas V and just one with the Vulcan rocket the company is so eager accelerate into service. Six flights would make 2025 the busiest launch year for ULA since 2022, but it falls well short of the company’s forecast.

Last week, ULA announced its next launch is scheduled for December 15. An Atlas V will loft another batch of broadband satellites for the Amazon Leo network, formerly known as Project Kuiper, from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station, Florida. This will be ULA’s last launch of the year.

  • Catanzaro, 8. Artisti in Corsia al Comunale

    November 26, 2025
    Italy

    Riceviamo e pubblichiamo

La direzione artistica 2025 è affidata all’attore e regista Francesco Passafaro.

    Il Calendario:

    • celebra la storia, i valori e l’impegno profuso dalle Fiamme Gialle a tutela della sicurezza economico-finanziaria, dello sviluppo e della giustizia sociale;
    • punta a rafforzare il legame tra l’Istituzione e i cittadini, avvalendosi di immagini e narrazioni evocative;
    • coniuga tradizione militare e ricerca artistica contemporanea;
    • è spesso arricchito da collaborazioni di prestigio, vantando nelle passate edizioni contributi di Giorgio Armani, Milo Manara, Renato Casaro, Aligi Sassu, Antonio Tamburro.

  • How to Build an AI-Driven Search Experience using Meilisearch

How to Build an AI-Driven Search Experience using Meilisearch

    November 26, 2025
    Software

Search is one of the most important features in modern applications. Users expect instant answers, useful suggestions, and results that match their intent even when they make spelling mistakes.

Most traditional search systems struggle to deliver this experience without complex and heavy infrastructure.

Meilisearch is an open-source search engine that changes this by offering a fast and developer-friendly engine that is easy to set up and extend.

When you combine Meilisearch with AI models for natural language understanding and semantic relevance, you can build a powerful and intuitive search experience that feels modern and intelligent.

This article explains how Meilisearch works, how to set it up, and how to integrate AI models to deliver better relevance and better ranking. You will also see how hybrid search and semantic embeddings work, and how to deploy Melisearch to the cloud using Sevalla.

    • Understanding Meilisearch

    • Setting Up Meilisearch

    • Using Hybrid Search and AI Together

    • Using AI To Rewrite Queries

    • Deploying Meilisearch to the Cloud using Sevalla

    • Conclusion

    Understanding Meilisearch

Meilisearch is a lightning-fast search engine that fits easily into any application.

It’s built in Rust and designed to deliver results in less than fifty milliseconds. It supports semantic search, hybrid search, typo tolerance, sorting, geosearch, and many different languages.

Melisearch also provides a clean RESTful API and a wide range of SDKs that make integration easy with JavaScript, Python, Go, PHP, Ruby, Rust, and various other languages.

You can try Meilisearch by exploring the official demos. These demos show how Meilisearch is not limited to one specific use case but can fit many types of workflows.

Meilisearch supports two editions. The Community Edition is fully open source under the MIT license and can be used freely even for commercial products.

The Enterprise Edition introduces features like sharding and is governed by a commercial license. You can deploy Meilisearch yourself or choose Meilisearch Cloud, which handles hosting, updates, monitoring and analytics without requiring server maintenance.

    Setting Up Meilisearch

Starting Meilisearch is simple. You can download the binary and run it directly or you can start it through Docker. Running through Docker is the fastest way to test it on your machine.

    docker run -it --rm -p 7700:7700 getmeili/meilisearch:latest

Once the server is running, you can communicate with it using HTTP. The simplest use case is indexing documents into an index and querying them. Here is an example using Python:

import requests docs = [ {"id": 1, "title": "AI in Finance", "text": "How AI is changing banks"}, {"id": 2, "title": "AI in Law", "text": "How AI helps legal teams"}, ] requests.put( "http://localhost:7700/indexes/articles/documents", json=docs )

    Searching is just as easy.

    import requests query = "ai banks" res = requests.post( "http://localhost:7700/indexes/articles/search", json={"q": query} ) print(res.json())

The engine returns results in milliseconds. Typo tolerance, word proximity and relevance ranking work out of the box.

Meilisearch automatically handles synonyms if you configure them and allows custom sorting rules for attributes like price or date. It also supports faceting, filters, and geosearch, which makes it suitable for e-commerce, travel apps, real estate listings, and data-heavy dashboards.

Using Hybrid Search and AI Together

Hybrid search combines full-text search with semantic vector search.

Meilisearch supports semantic search through vector fields and enables the combination of both approaches. This helps you serve users who type vague queries or natural language questions.

The AI model provides embeddings that capture meaning, while Meilisearch handles the fast retrieval and ranking.

To add semantic search, you first generate embeddings for your documents using an AI model. Here is a simple example using OpenAI embeddings:

from openai import OpenAI import requests client = OpenAI() def embed(text): out = client.embeddings.create( model="text-embedding-3-small", input=text ) return out.data[0].embedding doc = { "id": 3, "title": "AI in Insurance", "text": "How AI powers underwriting", "vector": embed("How AI powers underwriting") } requests.put( "http://localhost:7700/indexes/articles/documents", json=[doc] )

When the user searches, you embed the query and compute similarity. You can mix this with keyword search results returned from Meilisearch. The combined ranking creates a better experience than either approach alone.

    Using AI to Rewrite Queries

Users often type incomplete or unstructured queries. They might type “How does AI help banks?” instead of keywords.

You can use an AI model to rewrite this into something more search-friendly. The rewritten query produces better results in Meilisearch while still respecting the user’s original intent.

    from openai import OpenAI import requests client = OpenAI() def rewrite_query(user_query): prompt = f"Rewrite this for search: {user_query}" out = client.chat.completions.create( model="gpt-4o-mini", messages=[{"role": "user", "content": prompt}] ) return out.choices[0].message.content user_query = "how does ai help banks" rewritten = rewrite_query(user_query) res = requests.post( "http://localhost:7700/indexes/articles/search", json={"q": rewritten} ) print(res.json())

This pattern improves accuracy for question-based searches across blogs, documentation platforms, and knowledge bases. You can also use the model to normalise queries, remove ambiguous text, expand synonyms, and fix spelling mistakes before they reach Meilisearch.

Deploying Meilisearch to the Cloud using Sevalla

You can deploy Meilisearch anywhere. It runs on a small server, a local machine, or inside containers.

Self-hosting gives you full control and is usually preferred by technical teams who want to keep sensitive data in-house. You can choose any cloud provider, like AWS, DigitalOcean, or others to set up Melisearch. But I will be using Sevalla.

Sevalla is a PaaS provider designed for developers and dev teams shipping features and updates constantly in the most efficient way. It offers application hosting, database, object storage, and static site hosting for your projects.

I am using Sevalla for two reasons:

    • Every platform will charge you for creating a cloud resource. Sevalla comes with a $50 credit for us to use, so we won’t incur any costs for this example.

    • Sevalla has a template for Melisearch, so it simplifies the manual installation and setup for each resource you will need for installation.

Log in to Sevalla and click on Templates. You can see Melisearch as one of the templates. Click Deploy.

    Sevalla Template

You will see the resources being provisioned for the application.

    Sevalla Deployment

Once the deployment is complete, click on “Visit app”.

    Melisearch in Production

You now have a production-grade Melisearch server running on the cloud. You can use this to set up indexes for your database and use the JavaScript or other SDKs to interact with Melisearch.

Here is the full list of APIs provided by Melisearch.

    Conclusion

Meilisearch gives you a fast and elegant base for search. AI models add understanding and personalisation. When these two work together, you get a search experience that feels instant, adaptive, and intelligent.

You can start small with keyword search and then add query rewriting, embeddings, hybrid search, and reranking. You can also use suggestions, synonyms, and filters to improve the user journey.

With its simple API, wide language support, and strong ecosystem, Meilisearch makes it easy to build a search that feels right at home in any modern app.

Sony teases the A7 V, its next flagship midrange camera

    November 26, 2025
    Hardware

Sony appears to be ready to announce another addition to its Alpha camera lineup. The company shared an image on the Sony Alpha Instagram account with the text “Chase your dream” and the date December 2 at 9AM EST, which could be a teaser for its next mirrorless camera.

It’s possible the company has something else in mind, but the giant “V” or Roman numeral five in the background of the image seems like a clear reference to an unannounced Sony A7 V, a follow-up to the Sony Alpha 7 IV. Considering there was around a four year gap between the release of the A7 III and A7 IV, releasing the new camera in 2026 would make the timing lineup, too.

    View this post on Instagram

Rumors suggest the A7 V could feature a new 33MP “partially stacked sensor” designed by Sony, along with the ability to capture 4K / 60 fps video. The company is also rumored to be announcing at least two new lenses to go with the new camera. Since the Alpha 7 IV started at $2,500, it seems safe to expect that these upgrades could cost even more when the camera is officially announced in December.

    Apple

The M5 MacBook Pro (8/10, WIRED Recommends) is only a month old, and it’s already on sale. It’s the only Mac so far to receive the upgrade to the latest M5 chip, benefiting from improved performance across the board. In my testing, there was a significant step forward everywhere you looked, including the GPU, the CPU, and the Neural Engine for AI tasks. It’s the GPU that’s seen the biggest leap, though, which should speed up both gaming and creative applications. Other than that, this is the same MacBook Pro you probably already know and love, with its bright mini-LED screen, robust speakers, and extra ports (over the MacBook Air, at least).

This base 14-inch model doesn’t have the incredible value of the MacBook Air or the powerhouse performance of the M4 Pro and M4 Max MacBook Pro. Ultimately, when it comes to which MacBook you should buy, the answer is still the Air. But the M5 versions of these laptops aren’t coming until next year, so if you’re after the latest Apple Silicon in one of the best laptops you can buy, this deal on the M5 MacBook Pro is solid.

The JBL Flip 7 (9/10, WIRED Recommends) is a Bluetooth speaker that has it all. As our A/V reviewer Ryan Waniata says, “JBL’s Flip strikes the perfect compromise between mobility and sound quality, offering clean detail with plenty of punch.” Waniata also praises the durability of the Flip 7, which is important in a Bluetooth speaker meant to be used outdoors. There are tons of different color options to match your vibe, and it gets up to 16 hours of battery life. The increased water resistance means it’ll bring the party to wherever you need it. Put simply, it’s the best Bluetooth speaker you can buy, and it’s at a great price.

Everyone wants a cordless Dyson vacuum, but they tend to be exorbitantly expensive. It’s still not cheap, but at $300 off, this is as good a deal as we’ve seen on this vacuum. The V15 Detect is our vacuum expert’s favorite Dyson. In her testing, Nena Farrell says she was impressed by how much dust and dirt it sucked up from her carpet, as well as from hard floors. The V15 Detect also comes with an extra sensor that can actually count the number of dust particles. That’s overkill for most people, but if you have severe allergies (or have friends or family that do), the Dyson V15 Detect can actually verify what you’re picking up.

It’s a 4K mini-LED screen, and our TV reviewers call it “a versatile display that does just about everything well, from naturalistic colors to rich black levels and impressive clarity.” It’s not the brightest TV in the world, but it does come with a 144-Hz refresh rate for gaming and a smart Google TV interface for your streaming needs. There are screen options ranging from 55 inches up to 98 inches, all of which are on sale ahead of Black Friday, with the happy-medium 65-inch model starting at $500.

Most people aren’t using the wireless charging on their iPhone to its full extent. Picking up a MagSafe power bank is a great way to do that, and this one from Anker is our favorite. With a 10,000-mAh battery, it can power up an iPhone to full charge nearly twice. It even works on Android phones because it supports the Qi2 standard. One of the biggest upgrades you can make to your remote work setup is a solid USB hub or laptop docking station. Most laptops don’t have enough ports, especially not if you’re trying to connect multiple, high-resolution monitors. The plug-and-play nature of this is super helpful too, as you can have all of your peripherals and accessories connected via USB-C.

While you could just go out and buy any old USB hub, the Satechi Dual Dock Stand has some secrets up its sleeve. First off, it’s designed to prop up your laptop slightly with its wedge shape. My favorite feature, though, is the built-in storage slot. It doesn’t come with an SSD included, but any M.2 SSD will work. It’s a handy feature to have. The best part is the price, which is down to $105, a new low at Best Buy for Black Friday.

Just last week, this laptop cost $1,000. Now it’s down to $550. That’s a 45 percent drop in price. And while I wouldn’t say this laptop is worth $1,000, it’s an absolute steal for $550. The Zenbook A14’s calling card is its weight of just 2.16 pounds. It’s light enough that it’ll make you do a double-take when you pick it up off the table. That makes it an ideal travel companion to lug across campus or on airplanes. Unlike ultra-light laptops in the past, the Zenbook A14 doesn’t have any major compromises in battery life, performance, or keyboard. It even has an OLED screen, as so many Asus laptops do.

This is a great price for the base iPad. But a cheaper iPad is only so good if it’s limited by its software. But with the iPadOS 26 update, you’re also getting a better iPad than ever before. With a more accurate cursor and resizable windows, the iPad is now more like a MacBook than ever before. Multitasking on an iPad has always been a nightmare, but now that you can pull up multiple windows side by side and resize them to your heart’s content. Connect it up with a wireless mouse and keyboard, and you’ve got something that could replace a laptop in a pinch.

No one is calling the Moto G Stylus 5G the best phone in the world. In fact, our phone expert (and tech editor extraordinaire, Julian Chokkattu) recommends Nothing’s Phone 3a as the better cheap phone. But the 2025 Moto G Stylus is not only the best Moto G phone you can buy, it also has a lot of high-end features, such as a large 6.7-inch AMOLED screen with a 120-Hz refresh rate. It even has a beautiful blue back, a built-in stylus, and a headphone jack. That’s a lot of uncommon features in a remarkably cheap phone, especially at its discounted pre–Black Friday price.

These earbuds came out a couple of years ago, but they remain some of the best you can buy. When they came out, Sony’s fifth-generation of high-end wireless earbuds were trimmed down to around 25 percent smaller and 20 percent lighter than the previous generation. You also get two extra full charges from the case, for a total of up to 36 hours of listening. That all makes it the best pair of earbuds for traveling in particular. There’s no compromise in noise canceling either. In fact, our A/V experts say the XM5 has “some of the most advanced functionality in terms of EQ, touch controls, and adaptive noise canceling available on the market.” They’re $100 off the retail price ahead of Black Friday, which is the best discount we’ve ever seen on them.

Samsung makes some of the prettiest gaming monitors, especially in the past couple of years. Within its Odyssey lineup, there’s now just about every size and form factor of monitor you can imagine. The Odyssey G6 (8/10, WIRED Recommends) is a 27-inch OLED with a resolution of 2560 x 1440 and a 360-Hz refresh rate, which should be great no matter what game you’re playing. Want extreme frame rates for competitive shooters? You can drop the resolution to 1080p and explore the higher echelon of the 360-Hz refresh rate. For slower-paced single-player games, the 1440p resolution is crisp, and the OLED panel gets you gorgeous HDR in games. It’s $250 off the full price ahead of Black Friday, down now to $650.

You can’t expect a laptop this cheap to be without compromises. But when it comes to budget Chromebooks, this is as good as it gets. It’s a reasonably affordable and attractive laptop, with lots of ports, decent performance, and a comfortable keyboard. For a Chromebook, the specs aren’t bad either, coming with 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage. Unfortunately, the touchpad isn’t the best, nor is the display. It’s not bright enough, and the colors look off. For a laptop under $300, though, the CX14 should do the trick, especially for a student or a first-time laptop owner.

    Dell (RTX 5070 Ti)

With RAM prices skyrocketing, just buying a prebuilt gaming desktop feels like an increasingly smart move, especially at this price. The Alienware Aurora Gaming Desktop is down to just $1,225, coming with an Nvidia RTX 5060 Ti, Intel Core Ultra 7 265F, 32 GB of memory, and 1 TB of storage. That’s cheaper than Dell’s own price for that configuration, but I wouldn’t recommend buying this particular model, as it comes with only a 500-watt power supply. While that’s enough power for the RTX 5060 Ti, you’ll be limited from upgrading to any GPUs more powerful in the future. So, I’d highly recommend buying one of the configurations with the 1,000-watt power supplies, such as the RTX 5070 configuration. Before buying, I’d also recommend comparing prices with Dell.com, as it has some strong deals on particular configurations, such as this RTX 5070 Ti model for just $1,450.

Be sure to measure your space and include a little room on either side for you to get on and off the rower.

It’s important to know what kind of programming motivates you the most and choose a platform to best suit your needs.

As with so many other products at CNET, we test rowing machines as thoroughly as possible, through rigorous examination and comparison. Each rowing machine in our list has been through at least 10 hours of workouts, using as many of the built-in features as possible.

    Compare

A rowing machine can be one of the smartest additions to your home gym and the ongoing Black Friday and Cyber Monday deals means that the holiday season is a great time to bring one home. There are plenty of models to pick from and each one comes with its own price point and set of features. According to Peloton rowing instructor Katie Wang, a rower can give you an efficient full-body workout, support low-intensity steady state cardio during recovery and help build both aerobic and anaerobic strength through interval training.

Best rowing machines for 2025 compared

When using a rowing machine, it’s key to practice good form if you want to get the most out of the workout. It’s helpful to have a rowing instructor or trainer familiar with the machine to teach you the correct way to row.

Catch, Drive, Recovery: It’s important to learn the four key steps to rowing. These are the catch, drive, finish and recovery. Peloton rowing instructor, Alex Karwoski says your starting position should look like this: “Starting from the fully compressed position — your arms should be outstretched, body pivoted forward at a slight angle, and knees close to your chest.” From here you want to push with the legs to drive the seat and handle away from the screen. Karwoski explains, “for the first third to half of the drive, our legs are doing the majority of the work while our arms and body are braced and holding the pressure.” Then, as the shins come to about 45 degrees to the floor, the body swing starts. He says the key to the body swing is to think about “adding momentum” to the handle. The legs started moving the internal flywheel, and this is where the legs and body can work in conjunction to further accelerate the flywheel. “Finally, our arms get involved right at the end of the stroke and we pull the handle all the way into the chest,” he says. Once all of that is completed, you start the recovery phase of the stroke, which is just the opposite and the arms move away from the body first, followed by the body pivoting forward, and the legs compress to return to the catch.

Don’t misuse the drag factor: The drag factor is usually featured as a dampener handle on a traditional rower. On more modern rowers, such as some of the ones mentioned on this list, it’s included within the software. “Most people assume that moving this from, for example, the three to the 10 makes the machine harder, but what is really does is simply increase the rate at which the flywheel slows down and thereby causes the stroke to feel heavier because now it is as if you are rowing through molasses rather than water,” Karwoski said. In other words, avoid mistaking the “drag factor” for “speed level” or “intensity.”

Know what the main measurement is: The main unit being measured when you row is output. Karwoski explains that when you row, each stroke takes a certain amount of time so the work being measured is the force applied to move the flywheel. He says, “from the output, we can derive the split, which is given in terms of time it would take to row 500 meters at your given output and distance.” Another metric to look at is the stroke rate, which is the number of strokes you will take, if you hold your current rhythm, in a minute. “I encourage people to focus on output because that is the big number usually right in the middle of the screen,” Karwoski said. Keep in mind that different rowing machines have different metrics that are highlighted, but ultimately it’s about how much force you can apply through the drive to move the flywheel.

Rowing precautions: As with any form of exercise, it’s important to get clearance from your doctor if you have health concerns or are pregnant. “If you are returning from an injury — and that injury doesn’t prohibit you from sitting on a rowing machine — the rowing motion can be a gentler way to restart your cardiovascular fitness,” said Peloton rowing instructor Katie Wang. This is a good way to get the benefits of a cardio workout while caring for your joints and knees.

There are different types of workouts you can practice with a rowing machine, depending on your goals. The key is to have fun with them since the machine is that versatile.

Just a few times a week of rowing is all you need: The good thing about rowing is that a short session provides you with lots of benefits. “Adding in rowing once or twice a week is great cross training,” says Wang, adding, “for people just starting their fitness journey, the American Heart Association recommends between 75 and 150 minutes of exercise per week depending on if that is vigorous or moderate intensity.” Rowing easily lets you get a full-body workout since it uses your legs and arms at the same time.

Combine with strength training: Rowing is an effective exercise because it engages multiple muscle groups at once and can be used for cardio and strength. For example, Wang says the rowing stroke consists of mainly push movements (with the majority of the power coming from the lower body). This can benefit you if your strength focus is a push day. “Try adding a LISS [low intensity steady state] row at the beginning of the workout to warm up or a short HIIT [high intensity interval training] row at the end for that extra burnout,” Wang advises. On the other hand, if you have a pull day, you can use a longer rowing workout to help balance out the workout without adding additional fatigue to your primary muscle focus.

Workout for time, strokes per minute or 500-meter split pace: Depending on your preference, you can aim to challenge yourself by seeing how many strokes per minute you can achieve throughout a timed workout. You can do a timed workout without any other metrics to look out for. Or you can throw in a twist by seeing how long it takes you to achieve 500 meters.

EMOM: You can also row for“every minute on the minute.” This involves choosing a metric to achieve within that minute and resting for whatever is left of that minute before repeating the action. If you decide you want to achieve 15 calories on the rowing console during that minute, for example: First row until you achieve it. Then if there’s remaining time in that minute, you rest. When the second minute begins, you repeat the same method.

Intervals: You can play around with intervals for time and exercises that include the rowing machine. For example, you can set a clock for 15 minutes and aim to achieve a certain number of sets as you alternate between rowing a certain number of meters paired with burpees or squats.

There are four types of rowing machines: hydraulic, flywheel, water and magnetic.

Hydraulic machines tend to be the most affordable and the resistance is created by the amount of air or fluid that’s constricted with a hydraulic cylinder.

Flywheels work with fan blades to create resistance using air. This is the traditional rower you might’ve seen at your local gym.

Water and magnetic rowers are newer machines that are quieter and intended to best mimic outdoor rowing. The difference is that magnetic rowers use magnets, while water rowers use water in a tank to generate resistance.

Yes, rowing is a full-body workout and targets 85% of your body. It targets your arms, back, core, legs and chest and can help build up your endurance and strength.

Rowing machines are great — but they have their setbacks. Apart from being bulky, expensive and noisy in most cases, the workouts you get out of them don’t offer the same strength benefits as resistance training. Plus getting a proper rowing form can be a steep learning curve for some.

Rowing is a great way to get in shape, but any exercise will help you reach your fitness goal as long as you watch your caloric intake. There is no such thing as one exercise being better than another. Just choose one that you like and stick to it.
