Disney loses bid to block Sling TV’s one-day cable passes

    November 19, 2025
    Hardware

A federal judge in New York denied Disney’s request to block Sling TV’s short-term passes, which give viewers the ability to stream live content for as little as one day. In a ruling on Tuesday, US District Judge Arun Subramanian ruled that Disney didn’t prove that Sling TV’s passes caused “irreparable harm” to the entertainment giant, as reported earlier by Cord Cutters.

Disney sued Sling shortly after the live TV streaming service started allowing viewers to purchase temporary access to its library of channels, starting at a single payment of $4.99 for a one-day pass. Several channels included in the package are owned by Disney, including ESPN, ESPN2, ESPN3, and Disney Channel. In its lawsuit, Disney argued that the passes violate an agreement with Sling TV that says the service must give subscribers access to its content through monthly subscriptions.

However, Judge Subramanian argues that this claim isn’t likely to succeed, as the contract doesn’t stipulate a “minimum subscription length,” adding that the agreement’s “broad definition”  of a subscriber “clearly covers users of the Passes.” Additionally, the ruling states that Disney failed to show how the passes might harm the company’s reputation or “siphon customers” from its new ESPN Unlimited live sports streaming service.

“Disney hasn’t shown it has lost customers due to the Passes,” Judge Subramanian writes. “The networks are being distributed in the same platform, in the same manner, that they always have, but to a broader array of Sling customers.”

Sling TV is offering its one-day pass at a discounted $1 rate to celebrate the court win, though Disney’s breach-of-contract lawsuit against the streaming service will continue.

“For too long, traditional ‘big media’ companies have intentionally stifled innovation and forced customers to pay for more content than they want or need,” Seth Van Sickel, Sling TV’s senior vice president, says in a press release. “We believe customers deserve the flexibility to stream the content they want, whenever they want it, at a price they can afford. Consumers deserve affordable TV, not bound by long-term contracts or bloated offerings.”

Meticulously Crocheted Tiny Vessels by Jeremy Brooks Test the Limits of Clay

One glimpse of Jeremy Brooks’ crocheted vessels, and you’d be forgiven for thinking they’re knotted with vinyl cord. These playful, colorful, and meticulously crafted pieces are actually made of porcelain. His works are also deceptively small—usually around three inches wide—making the process of literally stitching slender lengths of clay even more impressive.

Currently based in Conway, South Carolina, where he is Assistant Professor of Ceramics at Coastal Carolina University, Brooks has spent the last several years experimenting with the consistency of clay. While we may think of the hardened medium as brittle and rigid, the artist challenges the limits if its flexibility.

    “Knot Pot 2530” (2025), crocheted colored porcelain, 2.75 x 3 x 3.25 inches

“A portion of my research has fixated around a unique blend of clay materials that possess qualities of elasticity rather than qualities of plasticity traditionally found in common clay recipes,” he says in a statement. “To put it plainly, it behaves more like rubber than clay, and sets up very quickly once the components are measured and mixed.”

Brooks begins by extruding long coils in different colors, also sometimes rolling the medium into paper-thin slabs. Unlike greenware—clay that’s hardened but has not yet been fired—the material is very pliable and stretchy. “A coil made of this clay can easily be tied into a tight knot,” he says. “This method may be used to join different pieces together, or the clay can be crocheted, knitted, or woven into more dynamic forms.”

Many of Brooks’ vessels are exuberant expressions of color, while others are more earthy and wood-fired. As if made of soft material, the vessels appear to squish and bend, further emphasizing the vibrant reference to fiber.

Brooks’ work is on view alongside Steven Young Lee and Michael Velliquette until December 31 at Duane Reed Gallery in St. Louis. Find more on the artist’s website and Instagram.

Police Investigate D4vd in Celeste Rivas Case but Stop Short of Naming Him a Suspect

    Music

D4vd is under investigation in connection with the death of Celeste Rivas, according to TMZ and NBC4. Those reports cite anonymous law enforcement officials who declined to speak on the record; the Houston singer-songwriter born David Anthony Burke has not formally been named a suspect. Police instead hinted that they view D4vd as a suspect, suggesting they lack the evidence to implicate him publicly in Rivas’ death. The Los Angeles Police Department told TMZ it is not close to making an arrest.

Police sources added that they view Rivas’ death as a homicide, according to TMZ, though at present the case is not a murder investigation. Police are awaiting toxicology results from the medical examiner to clarify the circumstances of Rivas’ death.

D4vd has canceled shows and disappeared from the public eye since the 15-year-old girl’s chopped-up, decomposing body was found, in September, in a Tesla registered under his name. TMZ’s law enforcement sources added that the condition of Rivas’ corpse suggests multiple people were involved in its dismemberment.

Pitchfork has emailed representatives for D4vd and the Los Angeles Police Department for comment.

Windows 11’s calendar is finally getting this long-awaited feature soon

    November 19, 2025
    Hardware

Official support for Windows 10 was discontinued last month, but despite that, there are features from the older OS that are still missing from Windows 11. One such feature? The detailed calendar view in the taskbar. Fortunately, this one’s coming soon!

Microsoft announced during yesterday’s Ignite 2025 presentation that it will be adding a new “Agenda view” to the taskbar calendar that helps you streamline your day and prepare for meetings.

The Agenda view will give you a quick chronological overview of upcoming events in your calendar, and you’ll be able to hop into meetings directly from this new view.

Windows Insiders will be the first to get access to the Agenda view starting in December. Microsoft did not mention when the feature is expected to come to the general public.

  • Introduction to HTML: History, Role, and Syntax

    November 19, 2025
    Software

HTML is the backbone of the web. Whether you’re building a simple landing page or architecting a complex web application, HTML (HyperText Markup Language) is the first language you encounter. It defines the structure of web content and acts as the foundation upon which CSS and JavaScript bring style and interactivity.

In this article, we’ll explore what HTML is, how it came to be, its role in modern web development, and the core syntax every developer should know—all backed by examples to solidify the concepts.

    A Brief History of HTML

HTML was created by Tim Berners-Lee in 1991 while he was working at CERN. His goal was simple yet revolutionary: to build a way for researchers to share documents across different systems using hyperlinks.

    Key milestones in HTML’s evolution:

    HTML 1.0 (1991–1995) – The Beginning

    • Extremely limited.
    • Supported basic text formatting, links, lists, and embedded images.

    HTML 2.0 (1995) – Standardization Begins

    • The first official standard by IETF.
    • Introduced forms and basic structure rules.

    HTML 3.2 & 4.01 (1997–1999) – Growth and Complexity

    • Images, tables, scripting, and improved forms.
    • The web began shifting from documents to applications.

XHTML (2000s) – The XML Era

    • Introduced stricter syntax.
    • Aimed to bring consistency, but adoption slowed due to complexity.

    HTML5 (2014-Present) – The Modern Web

    • A huge leap forward.
    • Added multimedia (audio/video), semantic elements, canvas, offline capabilities, geolocation, and more.
    • HTML5 unified the fragmented HTML/XHTML world.

Today, HTML5 is the standard developers work with, and it continues evolving under the WHATWG (Web Hypertext Application Technology Working Group).

The Role of HTML in Web Development

HTML alone doesn’t make a complete website, but it provides the structural skeleton. Its role can be broken into three parts:

    1. Structure

HTML outlines what appears on a webpage:

    • Headers
    • Paragraphs
    • Images
    • Buttons
    • Sections
    • Navigation

    2. Semantics

    Modern HTML emphasizes meaning:

    • <article> for standalone content
    • <nav> for navigation menus
    • <footer> for page footers
    • <header> for introductory content

    Semantic HTML improves:

    • accessibility
    • SEO
    • code clarity

    3. Integration with CSS & JavaScript

    • CSS describes how everything looks.
    • JavaScript defines how everything behaves.

Together, these three technologies form the cornerstone of the modern web—often called the front-end triad.

    Understanding HTML Syntax

HTML uses a simple, tag-based structure. Every page is composed of elements, and elements are represented by tags.

    Basic Tag Structure

    <tagname>Content goes here</tagname>

Most tags come in pairs—an opening and a closing tag.

    Example:

    <p>This is a paragraph.</p>

Some elements are self-closing, such as:

    <img src="image.jpg" alt="Image description" />

The Structure of an HTML Document

Every HTML5 document follows a standard structure:

    <!DOCTYPE html> <html lang="en"> <head> <meta charset="UTF-8" /> <meta name="viewport" content="width=device-width, initial-scale=1.0" /> <title>My First HTML Page</title> </head> <body> <h1>Hello, World!</h1> <p>This is my introduction to HTML.</p> </body> </html>

    Section Purpose
    <!DOCTYPE html> Declares HTML5
<html> Root element of the page
<head> Metadata, links, scripts, page title
<body> Everything visible on the page

    Essential HTML Elements (With Examples)

    1. Headings

HTML offers six levels of headings:

    <h1>Main Title</h1> <h2>Sub-heading</h2> <h3>Smaller heading</h3> <h4>...</h4> <h5>...</h5> <h6>...</h6>

    2. Paragraphs

    <p>This is a paragraph of text.</p>

    3. Links

    <a href="https://example.com">Visit Example</a>

    4. Images

    <img src="photo.jpg" alt="A scenic photo" />

    5. Lists
    Ordered list:

    <ol> <li>First item</li> <li>Second item</li> </ol>

    Unordered list:

    <ul> <li>Item A</li> <li>Item B</li> </ul>

    6. Semantic Elements Example

    <article> <header> <h1>Understanding HTML Syntax</h1> </header> <p>HTML provides structure and meaning to web content.</p> </article>

    7. Forms

    <form> <label>Name:</label> <input type="text" placeholder="Enter your name" /> <button type="submit">Submit</button> </form>

    Why HTML Still Matters Today

Even with frameworks like React, Vue, and Svelte dominating front-end development, HTML remains indispensable:

    • JSX is still HTML-like.
    • Server-side rendering outputs HTML.
    • Browsers interpret HTML at a fundamental level.
    • Accessibility depends heavily on semantic HTML.
    • SEO relies on proper HTML structure.

In other words: HTML is not optional—it’s foundational.

    Final Thoughts

HTML has come a long way since the early days of the web, evolving into a powerful, semantic, and flexible language. Whether you’re a beginner writing your first <h1> tag or a seasoned developer building complex UIs, understanding HTML deeply will make you a better web creator.

If you’re just starting out with web development, mastering HTML will give you the confidence to dive into CSS and JavaScript next.

    Happy Coding!!!

A Ghost of Yōtei update will add a New Game+ mode, harder difficulties and more on November 24

    November 19, 2025
    Hardware

Ghost of Yōtei is a lengthy game with tons of activities to do. But if you’ve beaten it and are already itching to jump back in, it might be best to wait until at least November 24 to do so. That’s when developer Sucker Punch will release an update that will introduce a bunch of new features to the PS5 title, including a New Game+ mode.

That means you’ll be able to experience Atsu’s mission for revenge from the beginning again with all of the weapons, abilities and armor sets you unlocked from your first playthrough. Those early-game enemies are about to feel the wrath of many a flaming kusarigama.

You’ll need to finish the main story before you can unlock New Game+, which includes tougher difficulty options and a pair of new trophies to snag. The free update will introduce extra upgrades for existing weapons and armor sets, along with a new ghost flowers currency that you can swap for fresh armor sets, weapon dyes and charms while playing New Game+.

There are a number of features coming to the base game as well (i.e. for all players, not just those who dip into New Game+). Directional button remapping is one of several new accessibility options. Photo Mode will gain new filters, a shutter speed tool and a composition grid. Also, after you’ve beaten the main story, you’ll be able to replay missions and quests. With a new stats display, you’ll be able to see how long it took you to win a given duel, for instance.

Ghost of Yōtei isn’t getting an expansion quite yet. We’re crossing our dual katana for an Iki Island-style DLC for the game. In any case, Sucker Punch has already confirmed that Ghost of Yōtei Legends — which will be akin to the multiplayer mode in Ghost of Tsushima — is on the way in 2026.
