Bob Dylan is really digging in the crates. The storied musician’s latest archival release takes us all the way back to his teenage years in Minnesota, through to his early 1960s days in New York’s Greenwich Village. Through the Open Window: The Bootleg Series Vol. 18 captures Dylan’s work between 1956 and 1963. The collection is out October 31. Below, listen to “Rocks and Gravel (Solid Road),” a previously released track that was recorded in April 1962 in sessions for The Freewheelin’ Bob Dylan.
The last two discs of Through the Open Window capture Dylan’s famed concert at New York’s Carnegie Hall on Saturday, October 26, 1963. The recordings on the new set are previously unreleased.
Through the Open Window will be released digitally and in 8xCD, 2xCD, and 4xLP editions. The physical editions will also come with a 125-page liner notes essay from Sean Wilentz. It’s Dylan’s first Bootleg Series entry in more than two years, following Fragments – Time Out of Mind Sessions (1996-1997): The Bootleg Series, Vol. 17.
