The Dell 14 Plus Just Hit a New Rock Bottom Price (2025)

    November 27, 2025
    Technology

best deal on a laptop I’ve seen all year. It’s one of the few Black Friday laptop deals that actually lives up to the hype, the kind that I hope for at every major sale event.

I’m talking about the new price of the Dell 14 Plus. Dell has dropped the price of the Dell 14 Plus to a new low: $500. I’ve been watching the price of this laptop all year, and this is rock bottom. This is a premium-tier laptop selling for a budget price. When I first tested the laptop earlier this year, it was only sold in high-end configurations, with the Intel Core Ultra 7 258V, 32 GB of RAM, and 1 TB of storage, and sold for $1,100.

As good as this laptop was, I didn’t think it was quite worth that much. But I did hope that Dell would drop the price. That’s exactly what happened. Now a laptop with great specs, excellent battery life, high resolution display, and quality touchpad is on sale for the price of a cheap laptop. They are easy features to compromise on, but they’re also what makes the average budget laptop feel so cheap. This configuration is currently on sale for $650, down from around $800, and it’s well worth the money.

    Dell

    14 Plus

    $1,100 $650 (41% off)

    Dell (16 GB)

    $898

    Amazon (32 GB)

    $999 $500 (50% off)

    Dell (Core Ultra 5)

This lower-tier $500 configuration really takes it to another level. It comes with the same 2560 x 1600 display, but drops the other specs slightly. You get an Intel Core Ultra 5 226V processor, 16 GB of RAM, and 512 GB of storage. These are still really impressive specs for $500. The Core Ultra 5 is slightly slower than the Core Ultra 7, but you still get the efficient, long-lasting performance of Intel’s highest end V-series chips. You simply won’t find another $500 laptop that feels this nice.

In fact, it’s the same price Dell normally sells its entry-level Windows laptop, the Dell 14, despite it coming with a lower resolution panel and a much worse Intel U-series processor that isn’t nearly as powerful or long-lasting.

In addition to all that, the Dell 14 Plus comes with a good mix of ports, including a Thunderbolt 4 USB-C port, one USB-A (5 Gbps), an HDMI 2.1 port, and an audio jack. It’s also reasonably portable at 0.67 inches thick and 3.4 pounds. It’s not as thin as a MacBook Air, but it’s not much thicker than the 14-inch MacBook Pro. My only complaints about this laptop are the plastic (and somewhat thick) bezels around the screen, which make it look cheap. I also wish it had Windows Hello facial recognition, but the fingerprint reader built into the power button works well.

All in all, I can’t imagine a better option for both remote workers and college students. Trust me: don’t buy another Windows laptop around this price for Black Friday this year. You’ll need to act fast. This is Black Friday-only Doorbuster deal, meaning it’ll be gone starting Saturday and will only be around as long as supplies last. If you miss out on it, you can still opt for the $650 configuration, which gets you that faster processor and twice the storage.

Blast from the past: 15 movie gems of 1985

Peruse a list of films released in 1985 and you’ll notice a surprisingly high number of movies that have become classics in the ensuing 40 years. Sure, there were blockbusters like Back to the Future, The Goonies, Pale Rider, The Breakfast Club and Mad Max: Beyond Thunderdome, but there were also critical arthouse favorites like Kiss of the Spider Woman and Akira Kurosawa’s masterpiece, Ran. Since we’re going into a long Thanksgiving weekend, I’ve made a list, in alphabetical order, of some of the quirkier gems from 1985 that have stood the test of time. (Some of the films first premiered at film festivals or in smaller international markets in 1984, but they were released in the US in 1985.)

Four-inch worm hatches in woman’s forehead, wriggles to her eyelid

    November 27, 2025
    Hardware

If you need some motivation to keep from eating too much this Thanksgiving, here it is: Doctors in Romania pulled an 11 cm (4.3 inch) living, writhing round worm from a woman’s left eyelid.

According to a report in the New England Journal of Medicine, the worm likely hatched from a hard lump in her right temple, which the woman recalled first spotting a month beforehand. She also noticed that the nodule had vanished just a day before the worm apparently made a squiggly run for her eye.

When she went to an ophthalmologist the next day, doctors immediately noted the “mobile lesion” on her eyelid, which was in the suspicious shape of a bunched-up worm just under her skin with a little redness and swelling.

After the Online Safety Act’s onerous internet age restrictions took effect this summer, it didn’t take long for Brits to get around them. Some methods went viral, like using video game Death Stranding‘s photo mode to bypass face scans. But in the end, the simplest solution won out: VPNs.

Virtual private networks have proven remarkably effective at circumventing the UK’s age checks, letting users spoof IP addresses from other countries so that the checks never appear in the first place. The BBC reported a few days after the law came into effect that five of the top 10 free apps on the iOS App Store were VPNs. WindscribeVPN shared data show …

  • Black Friday PS5 deals: Sony takes $100 off consoles, plus sales on other PlayStation games and accessories

    November 27, 2025
    Hardware

If you’ve been waiting to grab a PlayStation 5, this Black Friday deal is worth noting. Sony’s latest consoles are getting a $100 discount across the board, dropping the PS5 Digital Edition to $399, the standard PS5 to $449 and the PS5 Pro to $649. That’s one of the best prices we’ve seen on Sony’s hardware this year. You’ll find the deals direct at Sony and from other retailers including Amazon and Walmart.

Sony’s flagship console remains one of the most popular gaming systems available, and this Black Friday discount makes it even easier to jump in if you haven’t already. The standard PS5 and the slimmer PS5 Digital Edition both offer fast load times, smooth frame rates and crisp visuals powered by the custom AMD Zen 2 processor and RDNA 2 GPU. The difference between them comes down to the disc drive — the standard model includes one, while the Digital Edition relies entirely on digital downloads.

For those who want top-tier performance, the PS5 Pro is also getting a rare $100 discount. It features upgraded specs and enhanced ray tracing for sharper graphics, along with improved cooling to handle more demanding titles. Whether you play cinematic single-player hits or fast-paced competitive games, the PS5 lineup remains one of the strongest options on the market for next-gen gaming.

Each console supports 4K output, 3D audio and access to PlayStation Plus, which unlocks online multiplayer and a rotating library of free games. The DualSense controller remains a highlight, with adaptive triggers and haptic feedback that make everything from racing to combat feel more immersive.

If you’re already set with a console, there are also a few solid accessory deals to consider for Black Friday. The DualSense Wireless Controller is down to $55, a $25 discount available in multiple colors. The premium DualSense Edge controller, which adds customizable buttons and replaceable stick modules, drops to $169 during Black Friday. Meanwhile, the PlayStation Portal — Sony’s portable Remote Player that lets you stream games from your PS5 — gets discounted to $179.

You’ll find a ton of PlayStation Black Friday deals across the web right now, and they also include some game sales.

  • ## ⏳ From Dot-Com Bubble to Digital Hype: Learning from the Past

    November 27, 2025
    Software

The term “Digital Transformation” dominates boardrooms and news feeds, promising efficiency, innovation, and the redefinition of entire industries. However, for those who lived through the late 90s, this digital euphoria sounds curiously familiar.

Today’s craze, where every company must “go digital” or “die,” bears a deep resemblance to the era of the Dot-Com Bubble (1998–2000). Back then, merely having a “.com” in the name was enough to attract astronomical investments, even if the business model was non-existent. The main lesson the bubble burst taught us, and which is crucial for today’s landscape, is simple: hype doesn’t pay the bills.

The big difference today is the maturity with which we approach technology. During the Dot-Com years, the Internet was seen as a magic wand that would solve all profitability problems; the value lay in expectation and not in realization.

Today, Digital Transformation is undeniably driven by powerful tools—Cloud Computing, Big Data, AI, and IoT. However, true success lies in going beyond the code and the servers. The focus has shifted to culture, processes, and customer experience.

Technology is the means, not the end. It must be a catalyst for increasing productivity and optimizing costs, supporting a business model that is, above all, economically viable in the long term.

One of the most painful lessons in digital history is that the tool doesn’t guarantee wisdom.
Hundreds of Dot-Com companies, packed with cutting-edge technology, disappeared because they burned through capital without generating revenue. In the current context, this caution is vital.

Investing in new software or migrating to the cloud is not, in itself, a successful transformation. Leadership must discern where to apply the digital investment. It’s not about transforming for transformation’s sake, but about choosing changes that will, in fact, translate into increased productivity and tangible economic results.

Herein lies the most subtle danger: not every transformation is necessarily for the better. It is the modern-day alchemy dilemma: we can use technology to turn water into wine, creating exceptional and efficient experiences; or we can, through an ill-advised application or poor planning, turn water into vinegar, complicating processes and wasting resources. What defines success is the ability to validate the digital strategy against traditional business metrics: profit, customer satisfaction, and operational efficiency. Without this alignment, Digital Transformation risks becoming merely an expensive and modern repetition of the Dot-Com Bubble’s hype.

Therefore, the legacy of the 2000s serves as a beacon of warning and guidance. Technology gives us unprecedented power, but the strategic responsibility to use it falls to today’s leaders. True Digital Transformation is one that respects financial sustainability, places culture at the center, and uses innovation to solve real problems and generate lasting value. May we embrace digital enthusiasm without falling into the trap of speculation, ensuring that our companies are not only digital, but also fundamentally sound and prosperous.

  • MIT simulation shows AI can replace 11.7% of U.S. workers worth $1.2 trillion in salaries — Iceberg Index tool shows jobs are affected in every state across the country

MIT simulation shows AI can replace 11.7% of U.S. workers worth $1.2 trillion in salaries — Iceberg Index tool shows jobs are affected in every state across the country

    November 27, 2025
    Hardware

The Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) created a labor simulation tool called the Iceberg Index to simulate the entire U.S. workforce and see how they are affected by artificial intelligence and the government’s policies surrounding it. According to a report by CNBC, the study found that as much as 11.7% of the entire U.S. workforce could already be replaced by AI, which is valued to cost $1.2 trillion in salaries and benefits in various industries, not just in the technology sector.

“Basically, we are creating a digital twin for the U.S. labor market,” ORNL director Prasanna Balaprakash told CNBC. The Iceberg Index records each of the individual 151 million workers and marks them with their associated skills, tasks, occupation, and location. It then relates this data to over 32,000 skills and more than 900 jobs spread across 3,000 counties, and then checks which of these can be replaced by current AI technologies. This allowed the researchers to use the Iceberg Index to forecast the impact of AI before it happened in the real world.

The group’s findings reveal that the widespread tech industry layoffs, which hit over 100,000 this year, are just the beginning, as many more positions in human resources, logistics, finance, and administration are at risk of being replaced by automation. The Iceberg Index does not exactly tell us which jobs will be replaced and when that will happen, but it gives a clearer picture of what many experts and industry leaders have been warning about — that AI will leave a lot of white-collar people behind.

Nevertheless, the simulation tool is more than just a canary in the coal mine. Instead, it’s actively being used by policymakers to help plan for the future and reduce the risks on society. MIT and ORNL have partnered with Tennessee, North Carolina, and Utah, using their labor data to help build the index, and now those three states are using it for planning, checking to see how different policies will play out in the field.

“One of the things that you can go down to is county-specific data to essentially say, within a certain census block, here are the skills that is currently happening now and then matching those skills with what are the likelihood of them being automated or augmented, and what could that mean in terms of the shifts in the state’s GDP in the area, but also in employment,” North Carolina state Sen. DeAndrea Salvador said.

The Iceberg Index helps governments check to see how a certain policy would impact the workforce before it even commits time and resources. This way, it can reduce the waste of taxpayer dollars on ineffective policies, ensuring that their workforces and the general population are prepared for an AI-powered future.
