The aircraft caught on fire soon after taking off from Shellharbour airport at about 10am on Saturday

Three people have died after a light plane crashed just after take-off on Saturday morning near Wollongong in New South Wales.

The plane took off from Shellharbour airport at about 10am before crashing and catching fire, NSW police said in a statement.
