We're Covering Cyber Monday Live—Because Today Is A Very Fine Day To Shop the Internet

    December 2, 2025
    Technology

20 today. Though you may have memories of it from the late 90s, around the time Nelson Mandela didn’t die and Berenstain Bears books were not published, the term was actually promoted by a hardworking marketing executive for a retail trade organization in 2005. On that first Cyber Monday, people were not doing Excite and Lycos searches; they were listening to Madonna’s “Hung Up” on the first iPod Nanos and then sending their first hesitant, wobbly text messages on their Motorola Razrs.

That makes today the 20th anniversary of the holiest day in e-commerce, a day to celebrate buying things on the internet by buying things on the internet. Please join us in celebrating by … buying things on the internet. We’ve done a lot of the heavy lifting here by making an exhaustively researched list of the very best Cyber Monday deals, and now by live-blogging the day’s events from 7 am to 7 pm EST.

    • Ray-Ban Meta Wayfarer (Gen 1) for $263 ($66 off)
    • Apple AirTag for $18 ($11 off)
    • Soundcore Space One Pro for $114 ($85 off)
    • Apple AirPods 4 for $69 ($60 off)

So Long, and Thanks for All the Deals

All right, that’s it for WIRED’s live coverage of Cyber Monday deals. We came, we saw, we clicked. We leave this weekend richer in gadgets and maybe even in spirit. Certainly I own more AirTags.

Our colleagues Parker Hall and Luke Larsen will continue monitoring the best Cyber Monday deals into the evening, and WIRED will pick up the pieces by tracking the best deals that remain even after the final bell. Assuming Cyber Monday has a bell.

Until then, check out the best deals at WIRED’s definitive list of the Absolute Best Cyber Monday Deals.

The humble, basic iPad is the perfect tablet, argues WIRED reviewer Julian Chokkattu. It has the things you want: good performance and battery life, a big enough screen, a price that makes it feel worth it. This deal is an even more terrific deal, just $274. The price has been a bit unstable on Amazon, depending where you live, but the deal’s still live in all its glory at Walmart and some other retailers.

I don’t really think it was an eco-friendly move for companies to stop including a charging block in the package when you buy a device. It was just to marginally lower the price, because now I just … lose all my charging blocks, or my kids or mom steal them, and I have to buy more. I really, really am going to buy this narrow one because I do need another one. It has two USB-C ports and can charge a MacBook Air and a smartphone.

After testing almost two dozen chef’s knives over the past year, I can say with full confidence that not all knives are created equal. This Hedley & Bennett Chef’s Knife is my favorite because it’s thin, balanced, and easy to handle. The natural handle shape makes for an easier grip—in part because of the transition between handle and blade that makes it feel like one cohesive tool. The German-style handle has two bevels and comes in a variety of colors (and you can personalize it with your name on H&B’s site) if you’re an Aesthetic Chef™. The blade has three layers of Japanese steel, an AUS10 core, SUS1A-1 outer layers, and an 11.5-degree edge. It may be the only knife you need in the kitchen, and now it’s less than $100.

I’ve been perusing our gift guides, trying to remedy this, and a weird number of Tech Gifts Under $100 are actually on sale for Cyber Monday! Do you like the comparative delicacy of Le Creuset? The baroque heft of a Staub? Staub’s self-basting spikes on its lid? Le Creuset’s wider, easy-grip handles?

I have only had this 4-Quart Staub La Cocotte in my possession for a few short days, and cooked just once, and so can’t fully answer any existential questions. What I can say is it is beautiful, satisfyingly sturdy, and has the aura of a Well Made Thing. It is the kind of pot that makes you a little bit proud to cook with it, as if you accomplished something just by owning it. And it’s like 60 percent off right now. So you can also tell people you got it cheaper than they did. Double accomplishment!

OMG My Waxed Canvas Jacket from Huckberry Is on Sale

I once heard the website Huckberry described as “if you wish you were really outdoorsy, but you lived in Park Slope.” I do not live in New York, so I’m not entirely sure what the Park Slope part means, but I get the general gist and I also get that it’s not complimentary. However, it does not stop me from wanting everything on Huckberry’s website.

The important part that you need to know here is that for years, the Pedro Pascal Last of Us waxed canvas jacket was only available in men’s sizes. Huckberry only recently made it available in women’s sizes, at which point I procured it as quickly as possible. And it is now on sale ($238, $59 off)! Do as Pedro does and size up so you can wear multiple sweaters and hoodies underneath and be protected by the weatherproof canvas that can be re-waxed and not get thrown in the trash when the DWR wears off.

Image may contain Clothing Sleeve Photography Coat Jacket Electronics Mobile Phone Phone Pants Person and Face

These jackets never go on sale so this is a very big deal for me. I love this jacket. The wax warms up when you wear it and it eventually molds to your body, in a flattering and not-creepy way. Huckberry has a bunch of other things on sale, too, here, for another few hours.

Do You Have PFAs in Your Tap Water? You Might

    Photograph: Kat Merck

    Waterdrop

X16 Under-Sink Tankless Reverse Osmosis System

    $1,999 $1,299 (35% off)

    Amazon

Many people filter their tap water in some way, whether via a refrigerator water filter or pitcher like Brita, but most people perhaps don’t know that most of these filters don’t filter out PFAs, or per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances, commonly called “forever chemicals.” Most municipalities don’t test for this, but many—perhaps even most—water supplies have them. A couple of pitcher-type filters (like Zero Water) can remove PFAs, but it’s a huge pain to refill these containers multiple times a day. The best long-term option is an under-sink reverse-osmosis filter with a separate tap. Waterdrop is widely considered to make the best of these systems, and the X16 is Waterdrop’s top-of-the-line model—tankless, with fast flow, a built-in TDS (total dissolved solids) meter, and the ability to filter 1,600 gallons per day. That’s enough for even the busiest kitchen or largest family. It’s rarely this cheap, so if you were planning on making an investment in your health for 2026, we’d recommend checking this sale out.

Reviewer Louryn Strampe wrote this post, but I wrote the headline with the “heart so true”, because my kids are obsessed with Pokémon and the show has been in the background all weekend. Some obscure bit of knowledge has helped me in my job, yet again! Watching this show, I sometimes feel quite bad that some of these Pokémon get captured as children, little baby Pokémon, and then trained and forced to do their captor’s bidding? That seems wrong, right? Anyway, those are thoughts for another time.

The Surface Laptop 13.8-inch, is one of the best Cyber Monday tech deals overall, in part because of the laptop’s specific configuration. Amazon’s selling the more powerful model with the Snapdragon X Elite chip for less money than the X Plus model. Which caused our laptop reviewer, Luke Larsen, to reach for his thesaurus to describe how absurdly good the deal was.

    Brick Your Phone, Immediately

I’ve written about the Brick in my newsletter, Thank Me Later, but the company is having a 30 percent off sale today. This is for anyone who has a hard time logging off work or social media. You download the app on your phone and create different profiles that “brick” different apps (I have an Off Work profile, one profile just for Instagram, et cetera).

When you find yourself getting stuck looking at your phone, you walk over and tap your phone to the little gray brick to brick the app. Once it’s bricked, you just can’t access Instagram or Substack or whatever you’ve been staring at for no reason. For some reason, the act of having to walk over to unbrick Slack makes it that much harder to do it. Yes! For once, my laziness is working for me instead of against me! Anyway, it’s totally worth it and you should get one.

You don’t want your ability to stay alive to be dependent on a battery pack that could malfunction at any minute. However, if you’re just walking the dog or at your kid’s soccer game and don’t want to pack too much bulk or spend too much money, a little, relatively lightweight and cheap electric heated jacket ($200, $80 off) is great! The missile meant to strike fear in Russia’s enemies fails once again

    December 1, 2025
    Hardware

A Russian intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) fired from an underground silo on the country’s southern steppe Friday on a scheduled test to deliver a dummy warhead to a remote impact zone nearly 4,000 miles away. The missile didn’t even make it 4,000 feet.

Russia’s military has been silent on the accident, but the missile’s crash was seen and heard for miles around the Dombarovsky air base in Orenburg Oblast near the Russian-Kazakh border.

A video posted by the Russian blog site MilitaryRussia.ru on Telegram and widely shared on other social media platforms showed the missile veering off course immediately after launch before cartwheeling upside down, losing power, and then crashing a short distance from the launch site. The missile ejected a component before it hit the ground, perhaps as part of a payload salvage sequence, according to Pavel Podvig, a senior researcher at the United Nations Institute for Disarmament Research in Geneva.

  • Holafly launches a subscription eSIM for frequent global travelers

Holafly launches a subscription eSIM for frequent global travelers

    December 1, 2025
    Hardware

Traveling overseas usually means flying to a single country, and then using roaming or a local SIM card to provide data for your phone and tablet. If you’re a frequent, global traveler, Holafly wants you to try something completely new: a “subscription” eSIM that always lives on your phone.

The concept isn’t hard to grasp: If you’ve traveled to a country like Japan, you can buy a physical SIM card from a local provider that replaces your own, or tucks into a second SIM slot on a dual-SIM phone. However, eSIMs can replace SIMs as a downloadable authentication token that allows your existing phone to connect to the local network without roaming.

The drawback of both approaches is that one SIM or eSIM generally works in just one country. (Take a bullet train from England to France to Switzerland and you might have to swap SIMs at each destination, since even regional SIM cards won’t always work in non-EU countries.) Holafly, an Irish provider, wants you to subscribe to an eSIM that always lives on your phone or PC, automatically roaming to the new country’s plan once it connects.

Holafly’s plans aren’t cheap: $49.90 per month buys you 25GB of data at over 160 countries, or $64.90 per month for unlimited data. The company’s plans page also doesn’t specify whether you’ll be roaming on to a 5G or 4G network, or whether your connection will be de-prioritized versus a local connection. If you subscribe to an unlimited plan, you’ll also receive a local “phone number” from the U.S, United Kingdom, or Canada. But this “phone number” will only receive SMS messages, such as to authenticate a financial transaction or WhatsApp confirmation.

There is an additional interesting side benefit, however: Sign up for one of the paid plans, and you’ll be able to “keep” your eSIM active on your phone if you cancel anytime. (Monthly subscriptions renew at the end of 30 days; annual plans are available.)

This additional “Always On” plan is free, and valid “indefinitely” but in a smaller group of 70 countries. The “Always On” plan will only give you a single gigabyte’s worth of data per month, however, and will be terminated after three months where you don’t use it — which could mean that travelers who travel once or twice a year won’t see much benefit. Holafly has listed the 70 countries that the Always On service will connect to on its “terms and conditions” page, which caters to Europeans: Canada isn’t included, for example, and of North and South America, only the U.S., Mexico, Costa Rica, Puerto Rico and Brazil are included.

Still, for those who frequently fly, the additional convenience of an “always on” eSIM might be worth it — or at least provoke competition from other carriers looking to provide an even better deal. The Gadget Guy blog notes that one Australian company, Simify, sort of does so, offering a 90-day eSIM that roams across 111 countries.

Adrienna Matzeg’s Embroideries Serve Up the Nostalgic Charm of the Greasy Spoon

Order up! The only two words you want to hear when you’re ravenous and seated at the laminate counter of a roadside diner.

Artist Adrienna Matzeg takes this highly anticipated call as the basis for a new trio of punch-needle works. Through nostalgic embroidered tableaux, she whips up melty grilled cheese, waffles with a pat of butter, and a banana split with puffs of cream and not just one, but three cherries nested on top.

an embroidery of waffles and silverware by Adrienna Matzeg
    Detail of “Sweet as Suga’”

Like much of her earlier work, Order Up captures Matzeg’s keen interest in nostalgia and the welcome discoveries of a long car ride. “Inspired by North American roadside diners and late-night stops, each piece captures the essence of a greasy spoon,” she adds.

Whether a cheap paper napkin or bottomless cup of coffee, the objects all appear to pop up from the delicately mottled backdrops, the painstakingly stitched shadows hugging their forms.

Supreme Court hears case that could trigger big crackdown on Internet piracy

    December 1, 2025
    Hardware

Supreme Court justices expressed numerous concerns today in a case that could determine whether Internet service providers must terminate the accounts of broadband users accused of copyright infringement. Oral arguments were held in the case between cable Internet provider Cox Communications and record labels led by Sony.

Some justices were skeptical of arguments that ISPs should have no legal obligation under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) to terminate an account when a user’s IP address has been repeatedly flagged for downloading pirated music. But justices also seemed hesitant to rule in favor of record labels, with some of the debate focusing on how ISPs should handle large accounts like universities where there could be tens of thousands of users.

Justice Sonia Sotomayor chided Cox for not doing more to fight infringement.

Everyone looks for something a little different with their desk. Some people want a traditional desk, some are looking for standing desks and others are focused on shapes, sizes or features. No matter what you use your desk for — working, gaming or hobbies — there are different features that fit everyone’s needs. These are the best tested models we recommend. Once you pick one of these, you might want to look at one of the best office chairs or gaming chairs to go with it.

Right now many companies are offering Cyber Week sales on desks, so keep an eye out for these exclusive discounts to save even more on the perfect desk.

    What is the best desk?

Depending on your needs, there are really two that I would say are the best. The Magnus from SecretLab is a fantastic standing desk for those who want a sleek-looking, gamer-inspired desk, while the Branch standing desk is a more traditional workspace designed for your work office.

    What we updated: April 2025

We added the Branch Desk Riser.

    The best desk

Not every desk we test makes it onto the best list. Some of them aren’t even good enough to get a mention. Some are close to being good enough that we’re willing to mention them here. These desks had something wrong that kept them off the top list, but are decent if you can overlook the specific issue.

    • Everest Work Table: This used to be one of our top desks, however the company has since closed its doors and the desks are no longer available. Not all of the best desks are specifically designed as computer desks. This Work Table from Everest is a brilliant example. Not only is it lovely to look at — the powder-coated legs and bamboo top look great together — but it can work in more spaces than just an office. While technically not a standing desk, it can be adjusted from desk height to bar height, giving you a lot of variety in how you want to sit or stand at it. I like it to be slightly higher than a normal desk so I can use it to take stuff apart while still being seated comfortably. The assembly was easily done by just one person. The Work Table comes with some nice cable management as an added bonus.
    • Homary Executive Desk: This desk from Homary looks fantastic when it is put together. The glossy white finish and antique gold accents give it the luxurious feel a $1,500 desk should have. All the individual parts have the weight you expect from an executive item, and once it’s all put together, it looks absolutely stunning. The desk we received for testing had the wrong holes drilled for the hardware to build it, and it arrived damaged despite being strapped to a pallet. Homary did replace the broken part with no issues or complaints but could not fix the incorrectly drilled parts. This meant I had to go to Home Depot for new parts to fix it myself. Now, do I think this happens all of the time to all of Homary’s products? No, otherwise it wouldn’t still be in business. I couldn’t test it properly if I had to buy the parts myself.
    • Monoprice Steel Frame Computer Desk: Gaming desks can be extremely expensive, especially when you add extras. This desk from Monoprice is simple, cheap, stable and has some neat extras like a headphone hook, cable management tray and an off-desktop cup holder. Having your beverage off to the side of the desk is a great idea. If you knock it over, the contents are going on the floor, not on the expensive electronics on your desk. The work surface is grippy, with grommets in the rear to push through cables. I wish these were a little bigger, but they do the job as long as you don’t have too many cables. A notch in the front lets you get closer to the work surface while maintaining good posture. At the price, the Monoprice is a decent entry-level gaming desk, although I did note that not all of the holes that should have been predrilled were (as is the case with several desks I’ve reviewed). When the manual tells you to screw something in a specific place, there should be predrilled holes to make that happen or you could end up splitting the wood.

How do I find the best desk for me?

When looking into desks, there are a few things to consider. One of the most important is the space you will be putting the desk in, making sure it is a good size for the room and you have a good space in your home for it. You will also want to make sure the desktop size matches with how you plan to use the desk, as a small desk won’t handle multiple monitors.

  • Netflix Won't Let You Cast Shows From Your Phone to Your TV Anymore

Netflix Won't Let You Cast Shows From Your Phone to Your TV Anymore

    December 1, 2025
    Technology

its service so that it will no longer support casting a streaming video to a TV from a mobile device.

If you’re watching a show on your phone, you’ll no longer be able to easily cast it onto your TV and keep watching. Instead, Netflix is prioritizing its TV app, which means you’ll need to grab your TV remote and use the app to play content, or even pause or rewind the show. Volume controls, playback buttons, closed captioning controls, or any other settings won’t be able to be controlled by your mobile device anymore if you’re streaming on the TV.

The change was first spotted and reported on by Android Authority, and the news has garnered lots of scorn from users in places like Reddit. The change eliminates a workaround that a lot of people use for either convenience—they can browse Netflix on their phone, then send something to the TV once they’ve chosen what to watch—or because the only account they have access to is authenticated on their phone, and they may not be able to log into the TV app.

“Why would they take away features that are incredibly useful? Why would they make the experience worse?” reads the top Reddit comment on the post sharing the Android Authority article.

A Netflix representative, answering questions from WIRED via email, says Netflix is ending support for mobile device playback control because it was not a feature that enough members use.

The representative says that Netflix sometimes has to retire features that are no longer widely used so that it can invest in those that provide more value. Netflix wouldn’t share any information about how many people used the casting feature, or what resources the feature was taking up compared to anything else the platform offers.

Casting to a TV will still work in a few cases. It doesn’t work at all on the cheaper ad-supported tiers that Netflix offers. But even if you pay for the more expensive streaming tier, casting from your phone will only work if you are casting to an older device, like a pre-2020 Google Chromecast, which worked without a remote control. But Google has all but killed off its Chromecast, and the latest smart TVs usually come with apps like Netflix preinstalled.

Users are riled up about this, pointing out that Netflix has shifted its priorities over the years from getting as many users on its platform as possible to maximizing subscription revenue by raising prices, cracking down on password sharing, and imposing limits on how the service can be accessed.

  • Jaguars' Coen shrugs off punter's alleged threat

    December 1, 2025
    Sports

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Jaguars punter Logan Cooke allegedly saying he would kill Tennessee Titans running back Julius Chestnut during a skirmish in Sunday’s game is normal trash talk between players, Jaguars head coach Liam Coen said.

“I’ve probably heard that said, I mean, 100 times from players in games, so whatever,” Coen said Monday afternoon.

Chestnut made the allegation in the locker room after the Jaguars’ 25-3 victory at Nissan Stadium. He said it happened during a skirmish following a fourth-quarter punt, and the two players were immediately surrounded by teammates. Jaguars long-snapper Ross Matiscik grabbed a Titans player and threw him to the ground during the altercation.

When it was over, Cooke and Matiscik were penalized for unnecessary roughness. Tennessee cornerback Kaiir Elam and safety Mike Brown also were penalized for unnecessary roughness and Brown was ejected.

“I don’t even know what I did [to earn the penalty],” Cooke said after the game. “I was trying to take up for my boy Dewey [safety Andrew Wingard]. It is what it is. We live with each other, we ride with each other. That’s all it is. So, play football long enough, football stuff happens.”

Chestnut, who blocked Cooke during Titans returner Chimere Dike’s 47-yard return of a previous punt, said after the game he was “just trying to play hard, and he came up to me and said he was going to kill me. So, I don’t know what made him do that.

“… That was surprising to me. I ain’t never seen nothing like that before.”
