Intel Kaby Lake Core i7-7700K Sandra 2015 benchmark leaked

Running on Z270 Express chipset motherboard

Intel’s Kaby Lake chips are just around the corner and while Intel has officially detailed its new architecture, we now have some of the first alleged benchmark results from the flagship Core i7-7700K quad-core SKU.

The benchmark CPU is most definitely an engineering sample, but the clocks of 4.2GHz base and 4.5GHz Turbo Boost, line up with previously rumored specifications. The CPU runs on the yet to be announced ASRock Z270-Extreme4 motherboard which is based on Intel’s upcoming Z270 Express chipset.

The rest of the detailed specifications include Hyper-Threading support and 8MB of L3 cache. As rumored earlier, Kaby Lake CPUs should also be compatible with current LGA1151 motherboards via a simple BIOS update.

According to the results from the SiSoft Sandra 2015 benchmark, spotted by Techpowerup.com, the Kaby Lake Core i7-7700K manages to get 151.94 GOPS in the Processor Arithmetic benchmark and 379.8 Mpix/s in the Processor Multimedia benchmark, which is pretty close to the Skylake-based Core i7-6700K.

Of course, most performance improvements will come from a higher clock and we also expect a slight power efficiency improvement, courtesy of architecture optimization, as Intel now refers to its semi-tock move, since Kaby Lake will be also based on a 14nm manufacturing process, just like the Broadwell and Skylake architectures. While Intel did not share a lot of details, it refers to it as the 14nm+ process, which brings improved fin profile and transistor channel strain as well as integrated design and manufacturing, leading to a claimed 12 percent process performance increase.

As detailed by Intel, CPUs based on Kaby Lake architecture should start appearing in September and these will be dual-core low-voltage parts in the U- and Y-series, which will be seen in plenty of notebooks and Ultrabooks, while desktop and other high-performance parts, will be announced sometime in January next year, most likely at CES 2016 show.
