Jane, who plays Leanne Battersby, has spoken out for the first time
A part of the reason why soaps are so loved is for its close relation to real life highs and lows.
Currently in ITV’s Coronation Street, viewers are witnessing character Leanne Battersby as she makes her way through the events of pregnancy – secretly carrying the baby for ex-fling Steve MacDonald.
However, for the actress, Jane Danson, the experience is tinged with baby memories of her own – as she’s now revealed that she suffered a miscarriage, two years ago.

Jane, who has sons Harry, 10, and seven-year-old Alfie with husband Robert Beck, recently opened up about portraying a character going through a process that she personally has a complicated history with.
‘I kind of feel in a good place to say it, but I actually did lose a baby a couple of years ago,’ she said, ‘so [Leanne’s pregnancy] does make me quite sad.
‘I’ve been asked the inevitable questions over and over, “Would you have another baby?” and I just feel now it’s a good time to say that it is close to my heart. But it’s Leanne going through it, not me.’

Since it is quite understandably a tough subject, Jane, 38, hasn’t spoken publicly about it before now – however, seeing as her character, who she has played in the soap since 1997, is going through her first pregnancy, she feels the time is ‘right’ to share her own experience.
‘It’s fine because I’ve never talked about it, but I just feel that now it’s a good time to say that it’s something that Leanne has always wanted and I know how that feels but I’m very lucky,’ she continued.
