Danny Dyer hints he’ll QUIT EastEnders – and fans fear he could be killed off

Is this the end of Mick Carter?

Danny Dyer has sent EastEnders fans into meltdown after suggesting he could be about to QUIT the show.

The cockney actor – who joined the soap in 2013 as landlord Mick Carter – hinted at the National Television Awards this week that he’s keen to try out other things away from Albert Square.

‘We’ll have to see then,’ Danny, 39, says about the fact that his contract runs out in October.

‘Four years is a long time. It’s been really rewarding but there’s other stuff out there.’

Danny has previously starred in numerous films as well as doing theatre, having appeared in plays by the late playwright Harold Pinter.

‘He believed in me and it meant the world to me,’ he tells The Sun. ‘I’d love to show other sides to me, I loved theatre and all that.’

Despite these hints, it sounds like EastEnders bosses are desperate to keep Danny.

It was reported last month that they’ll soon be entering negotiations and could boost his pay package, which is already said to be worth £400,000 a year.

‘Danny is so popular it’s a no-brainer,’ a source tells the Mirror. ‘He’s very much in the plan for the show going forwards… Everyone wants it to continue – especially the fans.’

Ah yes, the fans. It’s clear that many viewers are NOT keen on the idea of Mick Carter disappearing from the Queen Vic…

‘Please tell me this is a sick joke,’ one distraught admirer wrote about the rumours on Twitter, whilst another posted: ‘@MrDDyer nooooooooo. Worst thing I’ve read this year. Cmon L needs u! #<3mick’

Some have even vowed to stop tuning in should Danny leave.

‘@MrDDyer please say this isnt true? I cant watch it without u in it! #Eastenders,’ a fan of the actor Tweeted.

The rumours have sparked fears amongst some that Mick could be even be KILLED off by his own son Lee Carter.

‘please tell that lee doesn’t kill mick I would be so upset if Danny dyer is killed off,’ a worried follower posted. Another agree, writing: ‘This better not be true @MrDDyer #cantcope’

Thankfully Danny-Boy Hatchard – who plays Lee – seemed to cast doubt on that theory when he pointed out that it had been falsely written on his Wikipedia page…

Fingers crossed that Mr Dyer will be sticking around for some time yet, then!
