15″ Samsung Notebook 9 (2017) Review

Lisa Gade reviews the bigger of Samsung’s two Notebook 9 super-light Ultrabooks for 2017. The 15.6” Notebook 9 runs Windows 10 on the 2.7 GHz Intel 7th generation Kaby Lake dual core 15 watt Core i7-7500U CPU with 16GB DDR4 dual channel RAM (there’s also a less expensive 8GB model). The 15.5mm thick laptop weighs just 1.24 kg /2.73 lb., making it one of the lightest 15” notebooks by a wide margin (the competing LG Gram 15 is similarly lightweight). The Notebook 9 is unusual for an extreme thin and light (it’s nearly half the weight of the Dell XPS 15 and 15” HP Spectre x360!) because it has NVIDIA dedicated graphics. The laptop retails for $1,299-$1,399 and a full HD IPS non-touch display with outdoor and HDR modes, Intel 8265AC WiFi, a 66 WHr battery with fast charging and a backlit keyboard are standard. It charges via the included barrel pin style charger and via USB-C. The model we review is NP900X5N-X01US.
