Transfer updates and latest football news

Author: BBC Sport

Former Scotland and Liverpool footballer Charlie Adam has discussed Jordan Henderson’s move away from Saudi Arabia – with a switch to Dutch club Ajax in the offing – on the Football Daily podcast:

“It boils down to is this move is for him to really focus on
trying to get back into the England squad for the European Championships,
because ultimately he made his move, was criticised for it but to walk away
within six months, he’s obviously thinking it’s a footballing decision, it’s
not a financial decision.

“So, he’s obviously had a chat with his family and Gareth
[Southgate] maybe about what’s best for him to go and play and get into the
England squad, and ultimately, he’s made that decision.
But if you’re in the Saudi Pro League and you’re the one they’ve invested in, I
think I’d be disappointed but that’s football.

“Ultimately, there’s no real
loyalties in football, is there? Clubs want to get rid of you, they get rid of
you. If you’re a football player and you want to move to a different country,
you have to leave as well.

“Am I surprised? A little, but again knowing Jordan
he will be wanting to be part of that England squad for the European
Championship.”
