Cook Strummer combines pop rock, indie dance and house music on rework of Sunday Charmers single 'My Opponent'.

Cook Strummer is a Get Physical regular who has served up stellar singles and remixes and curated the superb Berlin Gets Physical compilation back in 2022. It was a broad mix of Berlin new wave, slower tech, and deep house that perfectly embodied his adventurous style.

The Sunday Charmers band (initially formed by Etienne and Florian, who are both brothers of Strummer) first released a version of this track in 2019. The aim of the original version was to mix the sound of bands like Unknown Mortal Orchestra with 2000s R&B. The track traces the journey of a couple through beautiful memories to the point of disenchantment and then helplessness once things fall apart.

It now gets updated by Strummer, who has turned it into the perfect summer anthem. He managed to keep the essence of the original version, and made it dancefloor-compatible, adding his own bass pops and drums elements to the memorable original guitar licks.

The superb 'My Opponent' (feat. Tanaë) starts with glistening and glassy shards of melody before electric guitar strums and a loose-limbed and organic rhythm arrive. The nimble groove is airy and warm before vocal coos and spoken words convey the emotions of relationship turmoil.
