Ryzen 7 2500U and Ryzen 5 2500U chips

AMD has now made its Mobile Ryzen platform official, matching its Zen CPU architecture with Vega GPU architecture on a single die. The Mobile Ryzen lineup will start with two SKUs, Ryzen 7 2700U and the Ryzen 5 2500U, coming to notebooks and possibly other similar devices during the holiday season.

While desktop Ryzen, Threadripper and server EPYC CPUs and its RX Vega graphics cards have done a lot for AMD, which we could see from its latest Q3 2017 financial report, AMD has been missing the notebook platform which will take the best from both worlds and pack it on the same die, and that is where Mobile Ryzen comes in.

According to AMD, Mobile Ryzen is the evolution of the APU started back in 2011 with Llano. Featuring four Zen CPU cores, up to 10 Vega Compute Units (CUs), and at 15W nominal cTDP, AMD promises a CPU performance increase of 200 percent and GPU performance increase of 128 percent, compared to the previous generation APUs.

AMD Mobile Ryzen should also use up to 58 percent less power, allowing it to offer a much higher battery life, something that is quite important in the notebook market.

For now, AMD will launch two low-power SKUs, the Ryzen 7 2700U and the Ryzen 5 2500U, both which use four Zen CPU cores with eight threads, paired up with 512KB of L2 cache per core and 1MB of L3 cache per core, for a total of 6MB of L2/L3 cache. Both APUs support DDR4-2400 memory.

The Ryzen 7 2700U will work at 2.2GHz base and 3.8GHz maximum Turbo clocks and come with a GPU with 10 CUs, or 640 Stream Processors, clocked at up to 1300MHz. The Ryzen 5 2500U works at 2.0GHz base and 3.8GHz maximum Turbo CPU clocks and come with a GPU with 8 Vega CUs, or 512 Stream Processors, clocked at up to 1100MHz.

AMD Mobile Ryzen also brings a couple of new features, including the new Precision Boost 2 technology, which should “accelerate processor performance by using from one to many CPU cores”, and the new Mobile Extended Frequency Range (mXFR), which is similar to the XFR on the desktop side and should raise the sustained performance in notebooks that offer better cooling performance.

AMD was quite keen to talk about the performance of its Mobile Ryzen APUs, comparing them not only to the previous generation AMD Bristol Ridge FX-9800P APU, but also compare it to some Intel parts, like the latest 8th generation quad-core Core i7-8550U. AMD obviously claims a win but bear in mind that these are AMD-made slides so we will wait for some real-world benchmarks.

AMD also talked about gaming on Mobile Ryzen, showing some performance numbers and claiming that it can almost hit 60 FPS in most popular MOBA titles, like League of Legends and DOTA2, as well as 50 FPS in CS:GO, all at 1080p. Unfortunately, these are average FPS and you will need to drop graphics settings to medium or low in order to hit those targets and some games like Overwatch or Quake Champions are hitting an average of just above 40 FPS at 1280x720p resolution.

The Vega GPU inside the Mobile Ryzen APU also brings support for FreeSync HDR and 4K screens, as well as offers hardware video decode and encode with support for 4K streaming.

While many notebooks will be coming early next year, some partners like the HP, Lenovo and Acer should have their first Mobile Ryzen notebooks ready for this holiday season. HP will launch Envy X360, Lenovo will get its Ideapad 720s out and Acer will pack new Ryzen SKU APUs in its Swift 3 notebook.

Malwarebytes ha pubblicato un’interessante ricerca che fotografa il comportamento degli altri software antivirus nel riconoscimento delle minacce.
Il software antimalware di Malwarebytes viene solitamente utilizzato come seconda soluzione per la sicurezza: esso infatti non si basa sui tradizionali database delle firme virali e grazie al più moderno approccio cloud riesce a riconoscere e neutralizzare minacce che altri antivirus non riescono a rilevare.

L’antivirus di Malwarebytes è stato fino ad oggi affiancato a soluzioni di terze parti perché non crea alcun tipo di conflitto ma d’ora in avanti ambisce a diventare unico strumento per la protezione degli endpoint: offre infatti una linea di difesa a 360 gradi integrando tra l’altro anche antimalware, antiexploit, antiransomware e protezione web.

I tecnici della società californiana hanno dimostrato che Malwarebytes riesce a colmare le lacune degli antivirus tradizionali evitando quelle infezioni che non vengono rilevate dagli altri prodotti. Circa il 40% delle aggressioni neutralizzate da Malwarebytes non verrebbero correttamente rilevate dagli antivirus più noti.
Particolarmente eloquente è la mappa degli attacchi aggiornata in tempo reale che Malwarebytes ha appena pubblicato.
Nel momento esatto in cui un’installazione di Malwarebytes, a livello planetario, riesce a rilevare un’aggressione passata indenne al controllo esercitato da parte di altri prodotti antivirus, “si accende” un puntino di colore giallo.

Lasciando aperta la mappa di Malwarebytes per alcune decine di minuti ci si accorgerà di quali prodotti antimalware – con maggior frequenza – non si accorgano di minacce incombenti.
I dati vanno presi con le pinze perché i dati possono essere influenzati dalla configurazione applicata da ciascun utente a ogni prodotto antimalware installato.
Microsoft Consumer – leggasi Windows Defender – è il prodotto che sembra prendere le “cantonate” maggiori obbligando Malwarebytes a risolvere il problema. Purtuttavia, va detto che Windows Defender è presente di default su tutti i sistemi Windows e che quindi la sua base di utenti è potenzialmente più ampia.

A true beast is being unleashed to developers, insiders and those who have massive datasets. As Fudzilla reported the card was pushed to Q4 2017 and AMD confirmed that the card will be shipping in less than a week. 

Although almost two months late to the party, AMD is geared up to ship their innovative and uniquely designed Radeon Pro SSG. The Radeon Pro SSG card features the same performance and features of the Radeon Pro WX 9100, including 16GB of HBM2 memory. What differentiates this card from other professional graphics cards on the marketi is that it is equipped with 2TB of SSD storage on board for computing of massive datasets, and rendering of large projects.

The Radeon Pro SSG is the first graphics card to offer 2TB of graphics memory, enabling smooth, native 8K video editing in real-time. To reach the staggering 2TB of SSD, as well as maximizing performance, AMD has employed a four-way (4 x 512GB) RAID 0 solution enabling 16 PCI-E lanes to the GPU. On top of these performance enhancing features, the card makes use of a private bridge between the GPU and SSD storage array.

Although some have viewed this card as a publicity stunt, AMD is getting some major industry players to invest in their strategy. Just last week at Adobe MAX in Las Vegas, Adobe previewed an updated version of Adobe Premiere Pro with a fully integrated Radeon Pro SSG API solution. This solution enables creative professionals to exceed many current editing and playback boundaries that were being encountered. The main feature of the latest releases from Adobe is the inclusion of “silent caching” which allows the software to take full advantage of the large onboard SSD storage.

Another update that we received comes out of one of AMD’s partners, Dell. It was announced in August at Siggraph that Dell would be shipping this card as an option as parf of their next generation of workstations, but today we have been told that that customers will soon be able to order upgrade kits to enable Radeon Pro SSG in their workflows. We have also been told that Dell professional workstation customers will also be able to choose the Radeon Pro SSG as a pre-configured option in January.

We have talked many people in the professional graphics market, and there is a lot of excitement that this card is finally coming to the market. In the United States, online retailer Newegg has the card listed at $ 6999, and is set to ship next week on October 31st.

Nvidia ha annunciato una nuova scheda grafica basata sul chip GP104: la GTX 1070 Ti.
Si tratta di un prodotto dalla potenza che ricorda da vicino quella della GTX 1080, con alcune delle sue caratteristiche rese leggermente “più conservative”. Ma neanche tanto.

La nuova GTX 1070 Ti poggia su 2432 CUDA core anziché sui 2560 che caratterizzano la GTX 1080. La frequenza di base è la medesima (1607 MHz) mentre in modalità turbo la scheda si ferma a 1683 MHz anziché 1733 MHz.

Nvidia GTX 1070 Ti monta 8 GB di memoria GDDR5 a 8 Gbps invece che a 10 Gbps, con un’interfaccia a 256 bit e una banda passante complessiva di 256 GB/s.
La scheda ha un consumo energetico di 180 W, include un connettore SLI ed è compatibile con SLI HB (high-bandhwidth) per chi vuole realizzare configurazioni multi-GPU di fascia alta. Dispone infine di tre DisplayPort, una HDMI e una DVI-DL.
Secondo i dati di Nvidia, la GTX 1070 Ti garantirebbe performance tra il 10 e il 15% superiori rispetto alla GTX 1070. Con un po’ di overclocking, poi, le prestazioni dovrebbero essere sostanzialmente sovrapponibili a quella di una GTX 1080.

I modelli custom della scheda dovrebbero arrivare sul mercato il prossimo 2 novembre mentre già oggi, in alcuni Paesi, il modello Nvidia di riferimento è già acquistabile sul sito della società. Il prezzo IVA compresa è di 475 euro.
