ASUS Unveils ZenBook Flip UX360CA: Ultra-Thin Convertible Laptop for $699

This week ASUS has introduced its ZenBook Flip UX360CA convertible notebooks, the company’s first ZenBook with 360° hinge based on the Skylake-based Intel Core M processor. The system sports a 13.3” display in FHD or QHD, an ultra-thin design, and a 54 Wh battery: an impressive combo for a machine running an ultra-low-power CPU. What is important is that the price of the new ZenBook Flip will not break the bank.

ASUS was one of the first manufacturers to introduce convertible laptops with 360°-rotatable display hinge several years ago. The company’s VivoBook Flip notebooks are positioned as the entry-level convertibles, whereas the current ASUS ZenBook Flip high-end machines are positioned as performance workhorses aimed at professionals, equipped with Core i7 processors, high-resolution displays and lots of memory. By contrast, the new ZenBook Flip UX360CA sits somewhere between: it features a Core M CPU, moderate specs and relatively affordable pricing, something that consumers will be glad to see.

The ASUS ZenBook Flip UX360CA is based on the dual-core Intel Core M processors (the Core m3-6Y30, the Core m5-6Y54 or the Core m7-6Y75) with two Skylake cores, ninth-generation of Intel’s integrated graphics (HD 515, Gen9), and SpeedShift technology. The processors run in ‘cTDP Up’ mode, which pushes their power consumption to 7W for an increase in base and turbo frequencies (the MacBook does this). Due to the Core M line of processors, the ZenBook Flip UX360CA is a fanless design, hence, it should be quiet. The systems come equipped with 8 GB of LPDDDR3-1866 memory as well as 128 GB, 256 GB or 512 GB of storage using SATA M.2 SSDs. Depending on configuration, the ZenBook Flip UX360CA may be equipped with a QHD+ (3200×1800) or a FHD (1920×1080) touch-sensitive display panel with 72% NTSC and full sRGB color gamut.

As for input/output capabilities, the ZenBook Flip UX360CA offers everything one would expect from a modern laptop: a 3.5mm connector for headsets, two 1.6 W speakers, an array of microphones, two USB 3.0 Type-A ports, one USB 3.0 (5 Gbps) Type-C port (with quick-charging capability for smartphones), one SDXC card reader, a 720p webcam, one micro-HDMI output, dual-band 2×2 802.11ac Wi-Fi as well as Bluetooth 4.1.

Nvidia GTX 1060 be priced at €234 in Europe

€319 priced Founders Edition to be sold by Nvidia

According to the latest report which suggests that Nvidia partners will not sell the €319 priced GTX 1060 Founders Edition, Nvidia has finally announced the European MSRP for the Geforce GTX 1060, set at €234 exc. VAT.

According to Paolo Corsini from HWUpgrade.it, the suggested retail price for the Geforce GTX 1060 is set at €234 + tax, which is a minimum suggested price for Nvidia partners, although plenty of custom GTX 1060 versions will be selling above that mark. As it does not include the tax, the price will range from anywhere between €280 to €300 depending on the country since taxes range from eight percent to 27 percent in some countries.

The same report said that the GTX 1060 Founders Edition will only be sold by Nvidia via its German, France and UK websites and will cost €319. This is a big surprise and a different move compared to back when GTX 1080 and GTX 1070 were launched. It also means that Nvidia partners are free to work on custom versions which could be available from day one.

Currently, the AMD Radeon RX 480 8GB can be found for €269 in most of the Europe so Nvidia GTX 1060 should provide at least some performance improvement in order to be a valid competitor. Unfortunately, official reviews will be available on July 19 when Nvidia’s NDA on performance numbers will be lifted. We will surely keep an eye on retail/e-tail when the GTX 1060 officially becomes available.

ASUS, Inno3D, & Gigabyte Tease Custom GeForce GTX 1060 Cards

Yesterday we saw the announcement of NVIDIA’s GeForce GTX 1060. Though NVIDIA is producing a reference Founders Edition card, as this is a more mainstream product, NVIDIA is leaving retail card production to their partners, who will be launching their custom solutions on day one. With the retail release still approaching what we have is more of a teaser then an announcement, but can begin to show us more of what the $ 250-$ 300 price bracket will start to look like as the GTX 1060 launch approaches.

ASUS has teased three separate renditions of the GeForce GTX 1060, as pictured above. These include a Turbo card with a blower, the Dual with two fans, and an ROG STRIX card. The last of which has the same cooler as the ROG STRIX 1080 and 1070, and as hinted by the AURA logo may feature the same RGB lighting found in the GTX 1080 and GTX 1070 ROG STRIX cards. There is no news yet on specs or performance numbers, or price and release date for these cards, but we should see those as soon as the July 19 release of the GTX 1060.

Inno3D GTX 1060 Gaming OC X2

Inno3D has announced that two cards are on the way. First is the Inno3D GeForce GTX 1060 Gaming OC X2, which features two fans and translucent highlights. We don’t yet know of any physical details aside from what is pictured. Next we have the Inno3D GeForce GTX 1060 iChill X3.  This card appears to be longer and also has three fans. While this cooler may be more effective than the two fan Gaming OC X2 card, it appears that these cards have identical specifications with a boost clock of 1784 and memory clock of 8.2Gbps. That identifies these cards with a factory overclock, but performance should be identical with the numbers that are currently reported.

Inno3D GTX 1060 iChill X3

Finally, in the truest definition of a teaser by not even showing the whole card, Gigabyte is teasing its GTX 1060 G1 GAMING. The card features a dual fan Windforce X2 cooler, with RGB lighting built into the shroud. Gigabyte has also disclosed that the card will feature a 6+1 phase power design (as opposed to 3+1), which indicates that they’ll be using a custom PCB for their card and not NVIDIA’s reference PCB.

Mainstream NVIDIA card launches typically feature semi and fully-custom designs from NVIDIA’s partners right off the bat, so no doubt we’ll see more custom cards unveiled as we get closer to the 19th. Meanwhile with vendors no doubt eager to lock in sales with premium cards, it remains to be see how many of these designs will actually approach the $ 249 MSRP NVIDIA has announced.
