L’année 2024 a été particulièrement compliquée pour le prince
William. En janvier dernier, le palais de Kensington a
annoncé le retrait médiatique de son épouse. Kate
Middleton a été opérée du ventre avant de disparaître. Face aux
nombreuses rumeurs infondées, la principale concernée est sortie du
silence,
confiant souffrir d’un cancer. De même pour le roi Charles III
qui se bat contre la maladie également. Sans oublier les tensions
qui sont bien présentes avec les Sussex. De plus, à
l’occasion de ses 42 ans, le prince William ne se trouvera pas au
Royaume-Uni, comme l’a indiqué le Daily Mail
. 

Le prince William pourrait célébrer son anniversaire
sans Kate Middleton. En effet, il sera en Allemagne à
l’occasion du premier match pour l’Euro de l’équipe anglaise de
football. Grand fan de ce sport, le prince de Galles n’hésite pas à
soutenir publiquement les joueurs quand il en a l’occasion. La
rencontre va se dérouler le 20 au soir dans la ville de Francfort.
Le prince William fera-t-il rapidement le voyage jusqu’en
Angleterre pour souffler les bougies auprès des siens ?
Sera-t-il accompagné du prince Georges pour cette occasion
? 

Le prince William : une rencontre qu’il ne veut pas louper

Président de la Fédération anglaise de football et
lui-même grand fan du ballon rond, le prince William ne veut
absolument pas manquer le premier match de son équipe préférée.
Pour cela, il a bien l’intention d’être présent dans les
tribunes de la Frankfurt Arena pour encourager les
joueurs. Une rencontre durant laquelle ils vont tenter
d’obtenir la victoire face au Danemark. Si le palais de Kensington
a confirmé sa présence, il n’était toutefois pas indiqué que le
prince William allait faire le déplacement tout seul. Pourra-t-il
compter sur la présence d’un de ses enfants voire des trois ?
Les princes Georges et Louis et la princesse Charlotte
doivent encore se rendre à l’école et louper un jour ne sera pas
bénéfique. 

Kate Middleton est, quant à elle, à son domicile pour s’occuper
de sa santé. Loin de la médiatisation, l’épouse du futur
roi d’Angleterre se repose. Une disparition médiatique
volontaire mais qui est également très bénéfique. Selon plusieurs
sources à la presse britannique, le traitement de Kate Middleton
serait d’une grande aide. En effet, la princesse de Galles irait
beaucoup mieux. Fera-t-elle une apparition publique dans
les prochaines semaines ? Si les Britanniques sont
impatients de la retrouver, ils espèrent surtout qu’elle prendra le
temps nécessaire pour se consacrer à sa santé et revenir en pleine
forme. 

Le prince William : un grand fan de
football

Le prince William ne manque jamais une occasion d’aller
s’entretenir
avec les joueurs de son équipe préférée. Il y a quelques jours,
il s’est rendu au Centre national de football de St George’s Park.
C’est dans un immense complexe suréquipé que l’époux de Kate
Middleton est venu souhaiter bonne chance au capitaine Harry Kane
et à ses coéquipiers. “Comme certains d’entre vous le
savent bien mieux que quiconque dans cette salle, les tournois de
football sont brutaux. Cela nécessite beaucoup plus que ce que vous
avez déjà donné”, a-t-il déclaré.

Le prince William souhaitait à tout prix prendre la parole pour
encourager les joueurs. “Vous êtes une unité, vous vous
battez les uns pour les autres, vous jouez les uns pour les
autres”, a-t-il conclu. Des paroles encourageantes
qui ont dû faire plaisir aux principaux concernés. Très occupé par
son agenda royal, le prince de Galles ne pourra pas assister à
toutes les rencontres mais il était très important pour lui d’être
présent pour le premier match. Un soutien de taille pour
les joueurs, qui espèrent aller jusqu’à la finale et la
gagner.

Diletta l’ascolta e sorride. “Cioè non so come si può dire – prosegue l’ereditiera – perché io ho conosciuto mio marito a 24 anni e ci siamo sposati quando ne avevo 26, però se uno poi ci pensa e dice ‘comunque la vita è quella bene o male’ cioè io avevo già nella mia testa l’idea di sposarmi”.

Euro 2024 is finally here and the tournament kicks off in Munich on Friday (20:00 BST) as hosts Germany take on Scotland.

The BBC Sport website and app will be the 24/7 home of the tournament, 27 matches will be broadcast live on BBC TV, and BBC Sounds has coverage of all 51 ties.

But how will England and Scotland get on? Read on for that or more…

How will the home nations fare?

All eyes back in the UK will be on England and Scotland, who are flying the flags for the home nations at this summer’s tournament.

Scotland have been drawn in a tough group with hosts Germany, Switzerland and Hungary.

They are the lowest-ranked side in the group and will come up against a vociferous home crowd in Munich for the tournament opener.

It is just a fourth Euros appearance for Steve Clarke’s side but, after a strong qualifying campaign, they will hope to cause an upset.

The Scots lost just one of their eight qualifying matches, finishing second in Group A behind Spain, having taken four points from challengers Norway.

They ended a 23-year absence from major tournaments in 2021 and Clarke has now become the first manager to guide the Scots to successive European finals.

Meanwhile, Gareth Southgate’s men, ranked fourth in the world, head to Germany as one of the big favourites having reached the final last time around.

Under Southgate, the Three Lions have made it through to at least the quarter-finals in all three major tournaments – but is this the year they finally go all the way?

Jude Bellingham is one of the stars of the tournament, having recently helped Real Madrid win the Champions League trophy, while captain Harry Kane had a brilliant individual campaign, netting 44 goals in 45 appearances in all competitions during his debut season with Bayern Munich. Manchester City’s Phil Foden was also named the Premier League’s Player of the Season after winning the title.

England face Serbia, Denmark and Slovenia in their group and will hope to get off to a strong start, having underwhelmed in their final warm-up match at Wembley – a shock 1-0 defeat by Iceland.

Who are the favourites?

Opta’s supercomputer has England at the top of the favourites list, with two-time world champions France and hosts Germany behind them.

France beat England in the 2022 World Cup quarter-finals, eventually finishing runners-up, four years after they won the crown in Russia.

Didier Deschamps’ side are spearheaded by Real Madrid’s new recruit, superstar Kylian Mbappe, and they sit second in Fifa’s world rankings.

Hosts Germany have a rich history of major tournament success, winning three Euros – the most by any nation alongside Spain.

Julian Nagelsmann’s side have a squad packed full of talent, but the Germans have failed to qualify from the group stages in the past two World Cups and reached only the last 16 in the Euros three years ago.

Spain – back-to-back champions in 2008 and 2012 – reached the semi-finals last time out, while Belgium are the second-highest ranked European nation in the world but have often disappointed on the main stage.

Defending champions Italy, who beat England in a penalty shootout at Wembley in 2021, have largely been written off having failed to qualify for the 2022 World Cup – and Euros-winning manager Roberto Mancini is no longer at the helm.

Elsewhere, Portugal, the Netherlands and Croatia sit inside the world’s top 10 and could challenge.

What is the atmosphere like in Germany?

Germany is hosting a major men’s football tournament for the first time since the 2006 World Cup and there’s been plenty of anticipation for the arrival of Euro 2024 within the country.

An estimated 2.7 million fans are expected to attend the 51 matches across 10 stadiums, while each of the host cities have set up fan zones that are set to welcome some 12 million supporters overall.

With Scotland facing the hosts in the Euro 2024 opener, their fans have been determined not to miss the opportunity to witness their side kick off a major tournament.

More than 200,000 supporters are expected to travel over to soak up the atmosphere – be it from within stadiums or just in and around the cities where their side plays.

Accommodation in Germany for the tournament isn’t cheap, and to cut down costs hundreds of Scotland fans have descended on a campsite just outside of Munich.

England, meanwhile, are expected to be backed by about 300,000 supporters throughout the tournament as they hope to witness their side live up to their tag as one of the tournament favourites and win a major men’s tournament for the first time since 1966.

In Gelsenkirchen, before England’s first game of the tournament against Serbia on Sunday, 40,000 English supporters are expected and security has been stepped up for a fixture German authorities have deemed to be “high-risk”.

Meanwhile, the streets leading from Hamburg city centre to Volksparkstadion are expected to turn orange on Sunday as thousands of Dutch fans embark on their customary march to the stadium at major tournaments.

Oranje supporters have followed a double-decker party bus to grounds since Euro 2004, and this will be the 50th parade they have held.

The Netherlands face Poland in their opening fixture.

How can you follow on the BBC?

The BBC will have live coverage of 27 matches which will be broadcast live on BBC One or BBC Two, BBC iPlayer and the BBC Sport website and app.

Presenters Gary Lineker, Gabby Logan, Mark Chapman and Alex Scott will lead the coverage from the studio in the heart of Berlin, with live match commentary from all 10 host cities across Germany.

Scotland’s group matches against Switzerland and Hungary will be live on BBC One Scotland, while all three group matches will be live on BBC Radio Scotland.

BBC Radio 5 Live and BBC Sounds will provide coverage of all 51 matches in Germany, with presentation coming from Mark Chapman, Kelly Cates and Steve Crossman.

German legend Beckenbauer to be remembered

Germany kick things off on Friday when they face Scotland in Munich.

Beforehand, the opening ceremony will take place and Uefa will honour German football icon Franz Beckenbauer, who passed away earlier this year.

The former defender – widely regarded as one of the best ever – captained his country to glory at the 1972 European Championship and 1974 World Cup, and led his nation to success at the 1990 World Cup as manager.

Beckenbauer’s wife Heidi will bring the European Championship trophy on to the pitch with Bernard Dietz and Jurgen Klinsmann, who captained the winning German sides of 1980 and 1996 respectively.

«Bilhetes do Euro» – II

Enviado especial ao Euro 2024

As barreiras de segurança separavam milhares de pessoas do hotel onde Portugal está instalado em Marienfeld, Alemanha. Os jornalistas são obrigados a uma longa caminhada junto ao gradeamento, que cobre vários quilómetros, para chegarem ao ponto de acesso que nos foi destinado pela Federação Portuguesa de Futebol.

O gradeamento termina, por fim, e já mal se vê o local destinado à comunicação social. Começamos o percurso em sentido contrário, desta feita na estrada que o autocarro da seleção não tarda vai percorrer para entrar na unidade hoteleira.

Há gritos de adeptos, não só portugueses, mas de outras nacionalidades, pedidos de fotografias e há (pasme-se!) a quem sejam solicitados autógrafos. Por momentos, o palco é dos jornalistas.

«Não somos ninguém», explica quem segue no grupo. Acho que ninguém ouve. Ou prefere não ouvir. Há um grupo de rapazes loiros, com camisolas de Portugal e da Alemanha, que pede insistentemente para que tiremos uma ‘selfie’. Alinhamos na brincadeira e acedemos ao pedido.

Prosseguimos a caminhada. Ouvimos o icónico «Siuu» de Ronaldo e somos chamados para assinar um pequeno álbum que tem fotografias e dedicatórias de outros jornalistas. Fazem de nós as estrelas, no fundo. Pelo menos durante aquele percurso.

Este texto não é sobre quem escreve. Mas permita-me, caro leitor, rasgar o protocolo. Apaixonado por futebol desde que me lembro, fui praticante grande parte da minha vida – cerca de 15 anos – e confesso que era um jogador razoável. Não sou um portento físico (nunca fui e jamais serei, de resto) e destacava-me pela leitura de jogo, inteligência e liderança – vulgo jogador macio como se escuta nas bancadas do futebol distrital.

Porém, fui uma criança como tantas outras com o sonho de fazer do futebol a minha vida.

Embora tenha vivido momentos irrepetíveis e inesquecíveis, e forjado amizades para a vida (do melhor que o desporto pode dar), os pés nunca acompanharam o cérebro. E quando o sonho já tinha desaparecido e as chuteiras foram trocadas pelo bloco de notas, eis que, numa pequena vila alemã com cerca de três mil habitantes, fui como um jogador da seleção por quatro minutos.

O autocarro chega quando já estamos no espaço que nos foi dedicado e perdemos o protagonismo. Como aliás, deve ser. Permanecemos na sombra, a observar, a tirar notas, a documentar, enfim, a fazer o trabalho de um jornalista com a seriedade e o rigor que esta profissão tão nobre exige.

Europei 2024 di calcio: l’appello di Save the Children

TORINO – In occasione degli Europei di calcio, Save the Children lancia la Campagna “La partita decisiva” per accendere i riflettori sulla dura realtà affrontata dai minori migranti durante il loro viaggio, invitando i tifosi che sosterranno con passione la propria squadra a mobilitarsi affinché l’Unione europea possa rivelarsi campione di solidarietà, offrendo aiuto e protezione a bambini e bambine in fuga da guerre, violenza e povertà. Gli occhi di tutti sono già puntati sui campi di calcio dove si disputa il Campionato europeo. Ma la partita più importante è quella che si gioca lungo la linea che segna il confine dell’UE. A giocarla sono i minori migranti che rischiano di essere bloccati o respinti alla frontiera, fuori da “un campo di gioco”, quello europeo, dove è diventato quasi impossibile entrare. Come per chi si trova fuori dalla linea di bordo campo. L’Unione Europea è di fronte alla sua partita decisiva, per vincerla deve dimostrarsi campione di solidarietà offrendo supporto e protezione ai bambini e alle bambine in cerca di protezione: solo rimanendo fedele ai propri valori fondativi può arrivare alla vittoria.

Con Save the Children si sono Del Piero e Tardelli

Alla vigilia del fischio di inizio, Save the Children, l’Organizzazione che da oltre 100 anni lotta per salvare i bambini e le bambine a rischio e garantire loro un futuro, ricorda che la vera sfida degli europei non si gioca negli stadi di calcio, ma è quella dei diritti al confine con l’Europa, dove migliaia di minori sognano solo di essere bambini. Nel 2024 in Italia sono sbarcati finora oltre 3.000 minori stranieri non accompagnati, il 13% del totale dei quasi 23.000 arrivi via mare.
A sostenere la campagna di Save the Children si mobilitano tra gli altri, il giocatore della Nazionale Federico Chiesa, i Campioni del Mondo e commentatori sportivi Alessandro Del Piero e Marco Tardelli, l’ex giocatore di Inter e Nazionale Nicola Ventola e il giornalista Gianluca Di Marzio.
