F9 Trax Los Angeles Vol. 1 – Overview – With F9 Audio’s James Wiltshire

James Wiltshire from The Freemasons and F9 Audio takes us through the new F9 Trax Los Angeles Vol. 1 (http://bit.ly/F9TraxLA) stems and DAW projects collection which harnesses the contemporary sound of LA’s revered production sound. About F9 Audio 21st Century Soul Los Angeles is the one city that has dominated the world’s airwaves and streaming charts in the last 10 years. It is home to the largest collection of Hot 100 Producers, writers, mixers & artists in the world and has pushed forward contemporary music with it’s unique ability to mix underground and overground seamlessly. TRAX Los Angeles is Volume 1 of a series of TRAX releases dedicated to bringing you the sounds, techniques and music from the chart dominating creatives working out of the City of Angels. 5 Entire DAW project pages show you exactly how modern records are pieced together and are ready for you to tear down and build into your own composition. A full set of session notes is available on every page showing you how we’ve achieved the production sonically and musically and every trick is there for you to investigate and learn from. Over 110 Multi-sampled instruments and sound menus are used in this release with full instructions on how to add these instruments into your own library. On this release the sound library tops 3.5 Gb ( unzipped ) and includes Pop and reverb drenched pianos, tons of Multi-sampled analog, Classic & upfront Digital synths alongside some exceptional drum menus. Our new Zenith 808 and 606 & Microbrute kits are included featuring a minimum of 8 way Round-Robin sampling and Analog Parallel processing on the way in. As always everything has been sampled with a gold standard recording chain including API Pre amps, Neve 1081 and 1057 EQs, SSL Xrack EQ + Dynamics, GML 8900 + 8200 Dynamics + EQ. Like all TRAX releases this pack needs No 3rd Party Plugins to operate. See how good your DAW can sound when it’s fed the right material. Future Retro techniques are heavily used in LA and new additions to the studio at F9 are in full effect on this release. The classic reverb tails of an original Lexicon 224 can be heard on many of the drum and FX menus and more than 50% of the drum content has been processed and warmed up by pushing into an original ex-BBC Studer A80 mastering tape machine (Brand new 911 tape used). About TRAX TRAX releases speak for themselves and the exceptional feedback from users at every single level from hobbyists to the worlds finest producers, writers and artists means we know just how important these releases are – we are now dedicated to pushing soundware forward and getting you the hottest sounds and techniques right inside your own DAW. As always with TRAX – This product is not suitable for the creation of Library music. This release requires either Ableton 9.5 onwards (Standard or Suite) or any version of Logic X. It is not compatible with Ableton Live Intro or Logic 9 Check out the full demo and free taster samples here: http://bit.ly/F9TraxLA

Oliver Heldens Live From #DJMagHQ Ibiza

Subscribe to DJ Mag TV: http://bit.ly/Oduqwo If we had to pick the DJ's DJ of EDM, few names would fit the bill better than Oliver Heldens. Someone who prides himself on creative tune selection, he's just as likely to play tech-house as he is future house and disco in an EDM set. And that's just when he's playing as Oliver Heldens. His more underground alter ego HI-LO is strictly driving tech-house and techno. “I play tech-house but I'm not a techno DJ. I play mainly house — future house,” he tells DJ Mag. “I play anything that's groovy, old house stuff or electro-house.” While before he felt a little out of place dropping his tunes on EDM's main stages, over the past 12 months he found himself playing slots at crossover festivals like Lollapalooza and Glastonbury, and it was as if something clicked. “Now I can rock the main stage,” he adds. “A lot of commercial stuff mixed with cool club records and it goes off, and I'm happy with that.” However, he's not bothered about working on a live show or becoming the next EDM pop star. It's as a disc jockey that his heart lies. “I prefer to DJ. As a DJ you can play a lot of different stuff and you can play on the fly — but with live stuff, you're really bound to what you can do live.” It's his appreciation of all types of dance music — something borne into him since the age of 10, growing up in Rotterdam listening to hard dance — that marks him out as one of EDM's leading selectors. He's someone who appreciates disco and the groove of classic house as much as he does drum & bass and prog. “I've always been into club music, stuff with rhythm and bass. In the future, I'd like to add some drums or loops [into my sets] but mainly it's DJing I love.” Meanwhile, the HI-LO project and his Heldeep label have allowed him to explore darker, more stripped-back dancefloor sounds and his first ever HI-LO pool party in Miami was a huge success. Even his mum agreed. “She said she had more fun at my HyLO set than at an Oliver Heldens set,” he explains. “She said, 'I couldn't stop dancing, and suddenly found myself in a trance'.” Website: http://www.djmag.com
