Il creatore di Android mostra il suo segretissimo smartphone bezel-less ammazza iPhone

Andy Rubin è uno dei principali responsabili della creazione di Android e con la nuova sua compagnia Essential sta lavorando su uno smartphone premium che si scontrerà faccia a faccia con iPhone 8 e Galaxy S8. Rubin ha pubblicato su Twitter una nuova foto che mostra per la prima volta in assoluto il dispositivo, e ad una prima rapida occhiata ci ricorda come design Xiaomi Mi Mix per via della particolare composizione delle cornici lungo tre lati del dispositivo.

Non sappiamo il suo nome, né nessuna delle componenti integrate, ma lo smartphone di Rubin potrebbe essere molto interessante. Stando all’immagine pubblicata seguirà il trend del 2017, rinunciando a gran parte delle cornici per offrire un’esperienza d’uso “senza distrazioni”. Il dispositivo non userà l’approccio di LG G6 o del tanto discusso (ma non ancora ufficiale) Galaxy S8, ma si avvicinerà maggiormente al design proposto da Xiaomi sull’innovativo Mi Mix.

Viste le icone della barra di stato, sul nuovo smartphone Rubin dovrebbe utilizzare Android, mentre sulla parte destra dello smartphone si intravede un tasto fisico, ma non sappiamo quale sarà la sua utilità. Il creatore di Android ha comunque mire molto elevate per la sua nuova creatura dal momento che intende sfidare colossi ormai consolidati da anni nel mercato degli smartphone, che sembrano irraggiungibili anche da altre realtà con ben altre situazioni finanziarie.

Samsung e Apple possono contare su team di ricerca e sviluppo con budget sconfinati, oltre ad avere già da anni accordi con operatori telefonici e negozi retail. Senza contare la fidelizzazione con gli utenti che hanno maturato nel corso degli anni. Competere con questi due colossi significa ben altro che realizzare uno smartphone degno di essere paragonato. Ma Andy Rubin vuole provarci lo stesso, e dal creatore di Android non possiamo che attenderci grandi cose.

L’immagine è stata accompagnata con le parole: “Sono veramente eccitato di vedere come si sta evolvendo. Non vedo l’ora di vederlo usato da più persone”. Sembra quindi abbastanza imminente l’annuncio, anche se nei prossimi giorni i riflettori saranno certamente puntati altrove.

NVIDIA Adds GeForce GTX 1060 To “Prepare for Battle” Bundle

In a brief announcement this morning, NVIDIA is expanding their “Prepare for Battle” bundle to include the GeForce GTX 1060.

NVIDIA’s latest bundle launched nearly two months ago, at the end of January. At the time it launched, the bundle offered anyone who purchased a GeForce GTX 1080, GTX 1070, or a PC or laptop equipped with these cards the option to download either Ubisoft’s For Honor or Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Wildlands for free. NVIDIA then expanded the bundle to cover the GTX 1080 Ti upon its launch earlier this month.

Now that a good number of miles have been run on this offer, NVIDIA has included the GeForce GTX 1060 in on the action as well. This means that short of the entry-level GTX 1050 series, everything above in NVIDIA’s GeForce lineup includes a game bundle. It’s a notable distinction, in part because the GTX 1060 is the fastest card in a competitive market for NVIDIA – that is, where AMD offers a card with comparable performance. Consequently, NVIDIA’s bundle has taken on something of a new meaning, as it’s no longer about just throwing in a value add item to higher margin cards, but now about influencing mainstream video card buyers.

Looking at the updated lineup, one thing worth noting here is that while GTX 1080 and GTX 1070 systems were included in the bundle, there is no word on if GTX 1060-equipped desktops or laptops are part of this offer as well.

We haven’t yet received news to how long this offer will run, though we will update here when we catch news of the end date. Meanwhile it is worth remembering to verify the participation of any vendors purchased from as NVIDIA likely will not give codes for purchases made from sellers that are not participating. NVIDIA also makes clear that it is up to the buyer to confirm their vendor of choice is participating in this bundle as NVIDIA cannot provide download codes and coupons for purchases made at non-participating retailers and e-tailers.

Microsoft admits stuffing up XBox disk resale


Four years after the event

The software king of the world has finally admitted that it stuffed up the sale of X-Box disks four years after its actions caused a bit of a stink with users.

For those who came in late four years ago Vole rolled out and then reversed a controversial plan to let game publishers limit resale of used, disk-based games. The move scored massive amounts of complaints and yet Microsoft held its course despite opposition.

Now Microsoft Corporate Vice President for Windows and Devices Yusuf Mehdi has admitted that the plan was swiftly seen as being stupid, but it was hard it was for the firm to change course even in the light of fan complaints at the time.

Writing in his bog Mehdi said that with Microsoft’s initial announcement of Xbox One and its desire to deliver breakthroughs in gaming and entertainment, the team made a few key decisions regarding connectivity requirements and how games would be purchased that didn’t land well with fans.

“While the intent was good – we imagined a new set of benefits such as easier roaming, family sharing and new ways to try and buy games, we didn’t deliver what our fans wanted. We heard their feedback, and while it needed great technical work, we changed Xbox One to work the same way as Xbox 360 for how our customers could play, share, lend, and resell games.“

What Microsoft learned from it was that customers are always right. Since it had made that commitment to its Xbox fans it had never looked back, Mehdi said.

This is the same Mehdi who defended Microsoft’s announced plans for Xbox One game licensing, when he was Xbox chief marketing and strategy officer.

He admitted that the move was a large change and “consumers don’t always love change, and there’s a lot of education we have to provide to make sure that people understand… We believe the digital world is the future, and we believe digital is better”.

Still at least it knows now it did something wrong.

Google Traduttore si aggiorna alla versione 5.8

Grazie alla disponibilità di servizi quali Google Traduttore e Microsoft Translate, i problemi linguistici che un tempo erano delle vere e proprie barriere che non permettevano una comunicazione fra persone di diverse parti del mondo appartengono solo al passato.

Relativamente a Google Traduttore, la sua capacità di ottimizzare le traduzioni per venire incontro a cosa effettivamente vogliamo esprimere in una lingua straniera è ampiamente aiutata dall’utilizzo di sistemi di machine learning e di network neurali in grado di migliorare di giorno in giorno.

Relativamente all’applicazione per il sistema operativo Android, nelle scorse ore gli sviluppatori di Google hanno rilasciato un nuovo aggiornamento facendola arrivare alla versione 5.8. Fra le novità più interessanti che sono state aggiunte troviamo:

  • Implementazione di un dizionario: oltre ad effettuare la traduzione da una lingua ad un’altra, è possibile accedere anche ad un dizionario linguistico in cui sono presenti le definizioni delle parole;
  • Leggere modifiche grafiche al menu laterale con la possibilità di cambiare l’account Google utilizzato;
  • Sempre legato alla possibilità di cambiare account, la sincronizzazione del frasario delle traduzioni è stata rimossa, permettendo di accedere solamente a quelle relative all’account in uso.
